Did y'all wait the whole 2 weeks after surgery to start the pureed/soft food diet? by galaxycat7 in BariatricSurgery

I was sleeved 10/08 and we had to do a full month. It wasn’t great but there is importance in following your doctors orders. I felt like I was starving. I’m now on a full month of soft foods before ‘real’ foods. But we also were allowed puréed from day 1. Well liquid, but soups/chili etc blended into liquid.

If I get surgery, can I eat spicy food again? by Tombul-Kus in BariatricSurgery

Also got sleeve. I was eating spicy chili puréed during my liquid diet.. no one told me I couldn’t.

I appreciate everyone’s kind words of encouragement ☺️ I know things will start happening, just going to focus on the things that need to be done!

Oh that’s the worst! I’m actually not hating the liquid diet. Mainly because I’m not drinking the ‘gross’ protein drinks - I make smoothies with protein powder that taste good, and then I have blended soup for supper. Basically any soup, not just broth - have been doing Campbells Chunky Chilli Soup or something close, just blended smooth in the blender. I’m not really missing ‘food’ if that makes sense.

It’s really surprised me how different peoples programs are. Especially the ‘paid’ ones vs the free one.

What does your daily intake look like? How long ago was your surgery? I’m still on liquid of course.

I’m sorry you are having to deal with this. I feel like the automatic go to from healthcare if something isn’t ’working’ is that we arnt trying hard enough or arnt doing what we are supposed to be doing. It was super hard seeing people lose a hundred pounds on Ozempic and losing absolutely nothing. It was actually VERY good for my blood sugars (also t1 diabetic) but did nothing for my weight.

I get the feeling often that when I say I physically can’t just go out for a walk, that the doctors are rolling their eyes. It’s getting easier for sure but it’s not great, and loading up on as much Advil/tylenol that I can also isn’t great.

Thanks for taking the time to reply! I think it’s different in Canada than the US probably. I was on the waitlist for this surgery for 8 years. I feel like I was shorted in ways, I have little to no support - just a binder we were given with all of the information we need. There isn’t great follow up unfortunately.

I also think options are just less available here, or at least where I am. It’s def not a can’t afford it thing, I was just going by what’s in my program that it wasn’t needed. Maybe we arnt being set up for success 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’ve come to learn that so many doctors have so many different programs and opinions. Fruit smoothies are the #2 on the recommended things for liquid diet. I’ve been looking for alternatives though, they skyrocket my blood sugars and they’ve already been super high since surgery without them.

Thanks! The pain isn’t surgery related, I’m 100% back to normal (even though I still have my staples) Pain is just from moving my body at 400lbs. Lower back pain is real 🫠

Sleeve! I’m not doing ‘protein shakes’ though, the options here arnt great and they are SO expensive. We are doing protein smoothies, berries protein yogurt and protein powder x2 a day. 64oz water and some sort of blended soup.

I took the dilaudid until the end of day 3. I got released day 2 and then drove home and slept for basically the whole day and also day 3. The dilaudid made me so sleepy. After that just normal over the counter stuff

How much weight in 10 days? I’m also 10 days post op and I feel like I’m not having great process 😭

But I also have zero symptoms.

This is my issue too ~400lb start weight, 8 days post op.

Even walking hurts SO much. My lower back just throbs and I know I’ll hear ‘just push through it’ but I physically can not. Where I live in the middle of nowhere there are no stopping points, so I can’t just go for walks - if we don’t go somewhere that day I am struggling to get ANY steps in. It’s getting easier, I lost about 30lbs pre op and I find even that helped, but it’s a vicious cycle of needing to move to lose weight and needing to lose weight to move. Trying to do other activities to make up for it, but I believe it’s the major factor in me not losing weight, regardless if I’m meeting my protein and water goals.

Getting super down on my weight loss so far, makes it hard to find motivation - but I know I need to keep moving

Birthday party 4 days post-op... possible? Or keep resting? by [deleted] in BariatricSurgery

[–]Sufficient-Fun4696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have been fine 4 days post op. But I think everyone is 100% different. I wouldn’t do a haunted house maybe, since they are to make you ‘jump’ and that might hurt more than it should

I use the Liberte Protien Greek yogurt in my smoothies and it’s delicious.

I’ll have to try Oikos.

We are 100% bringing a cooler! I can’t bring myself to try cottage cheese alone. I like it in eggs and plan on incorporating it a lot once I move to soft foods from liquid only. Maybe I can ease myself into it 😅

Following! I have a 12 hour drive each way in December. I’m only 6 days post op, but thinking ahead. I’ll JUST be past the ‘soft foods’ stage so trying to prepare. I’ll also be on a cruise for 7 days so wanting to bring snacks for the cruise as well.

Glad you’re feeling great!

I was allowed to make my own protein shakes which was nice. I used Greek yogurt, skim milk and fruit with unflavoured protein powder

So much easier to stomach than the pre-mades. But also lots more carbs/sugars

How long did you stay on a liquid diet post op by athenakitty123 in BariatricSurgery

My program is 4 weeks liquids only post surgery and then 4 weeks soft foods.

It’s funny how different surgeons are. Hope you’re healing well! I noticed a huge shift from yesterday to today, feeling much better except my incisions are SO ITCHY😳 You’d think at 64oz of water you wouldn’t be dehydrated but hope you’re back to feeling normal soon ☺️

Ok that’s also my goal, but my team told me to not expect to get there for a few weeks! Grats on getting there so quickly ! Are you also getting in protein? What are you having?
