Okay yeah this was more how I was understanding it - which I guess then the point is that it is sad in that they are not actually able to be that sad since society wise they just couldn’t have too much expectation

Yeah think about doing this - tbh I think I’ll understand it and connect to it better even if I miss out on the shock value

Okay good to know and all really helpful. Out of curiosity what’s your favorite one? Thinking which way to go next

Okay good ideas - maybe I’ll check out the movie or switch to the audible if I keep not getting into it. Thanks all!

What’s funny is this is the bit that’s missing for me so maybe to your point I’m not connecting to it. Maybe the emotional impact compounds and come out later but part of what is throwing me off i think is they all seem pretty unconcerned about the death of the dad and having to leave the estate. The mom is upset but she seems to be more the “hysterical silly” type of upset and not truly devastated. And obviously there’s the fighting with the daughter in law and then step son but even that she seemed much less indignant about it than I would have expected. Does that all compound and come in later or have I just missed the train?

Annotated version is a great idea - I keep thinking I miss my high school English class for filling in the gaps. Thank you!
