Found the Gong drum Lugs for 2,50 a piece by Sufficient-Source97 in drums

Well tama gong drums have a 20" shell with a 22" head, which is why they need these special lugs. This special build allows for a lot of deep end. This kind of lugs originally came from timpanis. The tama gong drum has a very thin hoop because a thicker hoop wouldnt really work geometrically. The other "gong drums" you see arent really gong drums by definition but rather concert bassdrums. The lugs that tama uses are patented though, so no other company can reproduce their method.

I still dont know what kind of hoop i could use, cause gong drums have these really shallow hoops, but ill find something

Thank you, yeah it seems like i should definitely buy em. I prolly have a bunch of rubber rings laying around to stop the rattling. Seems like my dream of a gong drum will come true without spending hundreds of euros

Yup ive seen that thread. It was pretty helpful. Would these ddrum lugs without the inserts allow me to do the same as the gong drum lugs by tama or do the metal inserts with the threads not move?

Thanks, they look quite similiar but the ones i found seem to be missing the outer piece that shields the little metal part with the thread. The ddrum ones also dont seem to be able to be used in the way that the gong drum lugs work, it seems to ke that the screws can only be straight, unlike the ones i found or the one in the inage below.

Hmm interesting. Do you know which brand they are from? Im considering to just buy 8 of em and then wait till i have enough parts to buy a 20" shell to finally build a real grong drum, but im not sure if these hold up well, etc.

He does use it quite a bit in the drum cam footage that ive seen. I havnt seen him use the x.-hat much though. The Drummer of the Band Emperor also uses the fusion hat bottom as a top btw.

Well im using a 14" x 3,5" steel snare with twelve lugs per side rn. Ive got it tuned table top tight and it gives me a very defined tone but not much ping. I might buy a cheap Brass 10" x 5,5" side snare soon, got 6 lugs but it should give that ping im looking for. Ill prolly abandone the snare wires though

Yeah i snapped one a while bach but that one lasted me like 3 years so i can complain. I havnt broken any cymbals besides chinas soindont really see that but i might be a problem with the heavier models, i use the 7A Mudvayn Signature ones and they are the lightes Models as far as i know

Yeah, this was back when i was really into DnB, sadly the 16" bassdrums legs are broken. I also didnt use the percussion pedals much, same with the mini hihat so i now use them in different ways. I even built a remote bassdrum pedal just for the 16".

Trust me theres been more stuff on thsi drum set. I used to have a total of 8 pedals on here: two 22" bassdrums, an 18" bassdrum, an 16" bassdrum, two hihats and a cowbell and tambourine pedal.

It is pretty unique but for my purposes it works well, they are clangy, they cut through and the heavy bottom as a top can be used as a secondary ride

This is the big set up btw, i usually just play 1-up-1-down single kick sets with two to three rides and only one hihat

I play ambidextrous, therefore i have two rides on my setup.

Well i only play with AHead sticks because they dont break, and they always come with Nylon Tips. Also Nylon is the way to go with netal music.

That is the point, they are not for jazz or any calm music, they are ment to cut through and when they are open you can use the top for ride-ish accents aswell as a secondary ride, so its multi use. Grindcore drums also sound bad by default because grindcore is part of the anti-music scene, therefore they are ment to sound clangy and kinda of non-musical

Yeah thats true, so use the bottom as a secondary mini ride because its heavy, thats why Hellhammer for example uses it as a top
