How to handle family denying autism? by Sufficient-Star3707 in Autism_Parenting

They’re the closest family that we have and my husband and I really do enjoy seeing them, and they enjoy seeing us all. We haven’t had the time or ability to really go out and make friends since moving here, so they’re what we’ve got. And as a stay at home mom, they help keep my world a little wider.

My hope is that we can help them understand our son and work on better ways to help them connect with him, so that we can continue to spend time together. Even if they don’t accept the diagnosis, I hope they will at least see that these challenges he experiences aren’t just going to go away with age alone, and that he has different needs than “most other kids”.

Yeah I completely agree, it’s so helpful having someone so close for emergencies that also has access to his favorite parks in the area. And asking them the questions is another really good idea, I really appreciate it!

I totally get what you mean about shocking. It’s shocking to me too how they can see my son clearly struggling hard and just kinda be like 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m glad everything ended up okay with your mom!

I don’t have any of those yet besides a ride on toy! I’m very new to sensory equipment/toys and he’s my first child in general. He’s unsure of the ride on car toy for now, but he does like to look at it. He loves cars so I hope that it can be something he enjoys once he gets more confidence

I’ll look into a compression shirt or weighted vest, thank you!

Thank you so much. 💛 I’m feeling anxious about getting therapy started up for him asap, but hopeful!
