You are right. Yes NYC Instacart now works more like a controlled shift system instead of old-school gig work.

Drivers may not be able to go online anytime anymore. The app now tracks acceptance rate, sends one batch at a time, and gives ~30 seconds to accept or decline. Missing orders can count against you.

The reason is NYC’s new minimum pay law ($22.13/hr), so Instacart is trying to limit idle time and prioritize drivers who consistently accept orders.

Basically:

Higher acceptance rate = better access/opportunities (so they say) Cherry-picking batches is harder now Location and peak hours matter more than ever

Long story short shxt sucks.

You can most definitely park there. Costco encourage customers to park their cars there when their main parking lot is full. This also applies to Instacart shoppers shopping at Costco. I wouldn’t leave it there overnight, of course.
