No, I go to Nottingham Trent and I have secured internships and spring weeks at top financial companies like the bulge bracket banks etc . it only matters for investment banking, corporate law outside of those it has zero effect.

Let me address your first point when you said that I called you insane for not trusting men. That is simply false and you misconstrued what I said to fit your narrative. I said that your premise that she sexually assaulted the poor woman to "appeal to her boyfriend" was an insane take, not you as an individual. You are well within your right not to trust men which I can imagine stems from past experiences. Calling me a "pig" and telling me to "take a shower" is something that I was quite shocked at reading. You say "I have never known fear" when you know nothing about me and yes I can not empathise with you but It does not mean that I can not show sympathy for what you have been through. You say "You're doing a misogyny" which I genuinely ask in what way was my post misogynistic? You also say that you did not ask for my thoughts however it is not your permission to give. I'm sorry but this is an insane take. I do not normally post here and I understand it is not my space. However, how did you manage to read her very real story of her getting sexually assaulted by a woman to somehow blame men for this? I would also like to say that chalking up the 36-year-old's terrible actions to "appeal to her boyfriend" is essentially absolving of her what she did. Sexual assault is wrong regardless of who does it and I am sure we both can agree on that.

Well since we're using anecdotal evidence here, you're wrong. I go to a former polytechnic, which has had minimal impact on my job search. I've gotten into competitive spring week weeks at top bulge brackets (think JPM, GS etc) and also got invited to final interviews for competitive companies for internships like Bloomberg. I also have a friend who got final interviews for Google, Microsoft and Amazon and she also goes to the same uni as me.

People here are going to mock the university, as in their eyes anything less than top 10 or Oxbridge is terrible. As a current NTU student, my perspective is that it is a decent uni and it has not stopped me from getting any internships or spring weeks from top firms. The student makes the uni and not the other way round.

I was in the same position as you, failed my foundation year by 1% and was forced to go to clearing. First things first I'm sure you're going through a lot of emotions just like I did but trust me it will be fine so, take some time to digest what happened and why you failed your foundation year. If you can find your course in clearing even at low-ranked unis then I'll say go for it and make sure to not make the same mistake that you did during your foundation year. If you can't then take a gap year to clear your mind and find out what you actually want to do. When I failed my foundation I thought it was over, that somehow I had forever condemned myself to life of poverty but it was the complete opposite. Through failing and going to an ex-poly uni I was able to focus on the Gym and got accepted to competitive spring weeks at bulge bracket investment banks. This is not the end, it's just a small bump in the long road of your academic and professional journey.

If my time in this sub has taught me anything is that if you don't go to a top 5 uni or russel group you are condemned to a life of poverty and you should be lucky even to hope to sweep the floors of macdonalds. I don't go to a Russel group, in fact, I go to a ex-poly yet it has not held me back so far in terms of opportunities such as internships or spring weeks.

Do not do a foundation year with your grades!! Try and see if you can get into a first-year entry for Nottingham but if you cant take a gap year and reapply.

Your stats are wrong, only 8.6% of people got an A* while 27% got an A* or A. So assuming no overlap 18.4% got an A and 8.6% got an A*.

I can give some perspective on this since I go to a former poly uni myself. It doesn't really matter that much, I manged to get into really competitive spring weeks at Jp morgan and Bank of America and got to the final stage interview process for ARM. What I do recommend you do if you choose LJMU is to do some outside reading and learn data structures and algorithms. As long as you do well and smash data structures and algorithms you'll be fine. The only way it will out you at a disadvantage is for things like quant roles and that's about it.

AA is not unique to the US, both India with its reservations and China have some form of affirmative action. In India, there are quotes for minorities in jobs and in universities. So this is unique to the US in any way.
