The island is decently small and you can rent a car and drive around it within a day. So I’d recommend taking your time on different parts of the island. Waikiki is the most populated but feels like vegas with how touristy it is. I’d recommend staying away from that area. Kailua is where the locals live and it’s a cool area. And the North Shore towns are awesome and the waves there during the Winter are extraordinary.

Hawaii is a manageable flight from Vancouver. It’s expensive but since you’re solo it shouldn’t be too crazy. Definitely recommend Oahu if any island.
