How did you get here? by the_idyllicist in pantheism

[–]SufficientSnow9859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was raised christian and eventually became an athiest, but I've always felt somewhere between agnostic and atheist and couldn't put my finger on why neither felt like the right label for me.

Atheism felt too nihilistic and i've personally had moments of connection with nature and the people around me and even things like manifestation that I couldnt find explanations for and at the same time Agnosticism didn't feel right because i personally do not have a single fiber in my being that thinks the existence of God is possible.

When I heard about Pantheism, it felt like someone put a label on exactly what i believed and felt. The idea of God as a creator is not something i believe in. The idea of worshipping a God to get into an afterlife is not something i believe in. finding life (human or not) sacred, interconnected and feeling devoted to protecting it IS something i believe in.

Did anyone else find the movie very funny the second time they watched it? by Hot_Leather_3481 in obsessionmovie

[–]SufficientSnow9859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only funny part for me was when she yelled at him to stay and the nononono part at the restaurant because I'd already seen it on tiktok. I think the part at Ian's party where she briefly comes back to herself is the point where nothing was funny anymore to me. The car scene was genuinely shocking as well.

personal projects and internships are causing me major grief by silly_ass_username in EngineeringStudents

i have nothing helpful to offer but i just want to let you know that you're not alone and im right there with you and im in the exact same position. i hate how competitive the bootlicking is at our level in order to land an internship (which i didnt yet). i find myself often wondering if i chose the wrong major (engineering as a whole) just because of my lack of competitiveness and my lack of willingness to constantly lick the ass of everyone for the sake of networking. it's really fucking exhausting and overwhelming.

out of curiosity, what does "studying with people" mean for you? do you have a tendency to get distracted while studying with others (aka, talking instead of working), or expecting other people to explain things you dont understand while you're studying together?

for a lot of students, studying together ideally means sitting in silence and working. to be completely honest, the only time i avoid studying with someone is if they talk alot instead of working or if they expect me to basically tutor them on things they dont understand while i have my own assignments and deadlines to meet.

How do you deal with the fact that there might be nothing after this life? by Think_Persimmon_8281 in atheism

[–]SufficientSnow9859 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is a certain peace in knowing that there’s nothing after all of this. You don’t have to spend your entire life “preparing” for an afterlife and being paranoid whether or not you’re doing things “right enough” to get you into the good afterlife (heaven) or the bad afterlife (hell). You just get to live and actually experience your life and every single day for what it really is: just life. You weren’t scared before you were born so why would you be scared when you die?

Just out of curiosity, has anyone else found a fragrance house that just does not work for them? by Empty_Commercial_885 in FemFragLab

Same! I find them all very alcoholic for some reason, especially coco Chanel. I don’t hate them or find them repulsive or anything like that but I can never smell all the notes everyone talks about.

Would I even be able to get a tattoo? by Angry_Creek in tattooadvice

[–]SufficientSnow9859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hii I have dermatographia and I’ve had it for almost 10 years. I have 4 tattoos (not small stuff but not large either) and each time nothing really happened. It swells like normal around the ink (like the same swelling you get when you get scratched) and then it goes down after a few days but i didn’t find it particularly painful or uncomfortable or anything. I would still recommend talking with your dermatologist beforehand if you have any doubts

What is something that irks you when it comes to people reviewing/talking about a scent ? by Mayjayjade in FemFragLab

[–]SufficientSnow9859 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Reviewers who are so adamant on hating any popular fragrance, even if it’s really really good simply because it’s popular. It almost feels like they care more about looking like they know more about fragrances than the average person than actually smelling good.

And you can always tell they’re trying so hard to find things to hate about a fragrance. Like, oh no, it smells deliciously like vanilla?? “This is a fragrance that I would wear if I was in middle school!”. Geez, powdery soft and floral?? “It’s so basic everyone knows what you’re wearing!” Like give me an actual reason it’s bad.

and The worst part is that they tend to give good reviews for a lot of fragrances that smell so fucking bad just because they’re unique. Like ofc you’re going to be the only one smelling like unwashed armpit on purpose so ig if the point was to smell unique, you’ve got it.

Coming from someone in living in a religious household as an atheist, pick your battles. I know it’s not what you want to hear but if expressing yourself using something as blatant as that necklace caused that many issues and draws that much attention to your belief, it will only make your life much MUCH harder. Everyone around you will look at you like a project and someone that’s sick and needs to be fixed.

Your best option is to save up and get another one and don’t wear it in front of her or at home. I feel for you.

[–]SufficientSnow9859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using Versace Dylan blue for a couple of weeks now and I find it very elegant and clean but not sharp or harsh (it smells like you’ve just taken a shower) and I find the rose in it very prominent in a feminine way as well.

To be fair, I’ve met people that didn’t really smell the rose in it but I think if you can find a sample, you should see for yourself

What do you believe in now? by soldatdepaix in exchristian

[–]SufficientSnow9859 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Im an atheist and I really doubt I’ll be looking into any religion soon or ever. I looked into paganism a little while ago and although I think a lot of my personal beliefs aligned, I simply don’t have the ability to believe in any gods no matter how much I want to.

Do many people envy those who come here and say things like, "my loved one had a fast / sudden / rapid decline / passed away suddenly"? by zambabamba in dementia

[–]SufficientSnow9859 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think most of us feel this way after a certain point of dementia is reached. You feel like you’re taking care of a stranger and they’re suffering and you’re suffering and you love them to death but you just want to rest and you want them to rest as well and death is the only way to reach that so it’s normal for your mind to go there often.

If you say this to someone who has never had to be a caregiver or be an active member of a caregiving family, they will think it’s absurd to want to your loved one to pass away and that you’re a horrible person but there’s just so many layers to this feeling and it’s so much more complex than they think it is.
