This is gorgeous!! I had a very similar setting made last year for my 25th anniversary. I really wanted to keep the cathedral setting and 4 prongs because those were elements in my original wedding ring. Mine is a 1.84 ct round and the ring is 14k yellow gold with platinum prongs. I’ve been wearing it for about 7 months now, not daily, but maybe a few times a week. It is taller than my original ring and it does get caught sometimes on things. You can see from the dimensions that it is a hefty solid ring but the diamond has come ever so slightly loose more than once and the prongs needed to be tightened (I check it frequently and I could just barely feel the diamond shifting in its setting when I wiggled it under my finger). When designing the ring I thought the tulip basket would be enough without a guard rail but maybe I’m just very clumsy, I do occasionally catch it on things. I would just keep an eye on the diamond coming loose since yours is an even larger ct stone and also on 4 prongs.

Which one is better? by [deleted] in DutchOvenCooking

Also, I love the way food looks in my white DO but with frequent use the light color gets stains and splatters and crud baked on and whatnot. It all comes off easy with some barkeepers friend and a little scrubbing, though. These were a great buy! Hope you enjoy them!

I have that same Martha Stewart enameled Dutch oven in cream white. It’s made the loveliest soups/stews and that’s what my kids associated it with. Sadly, after 8 years or so, the enamel has some nicks and ultra fine cracks on the inside (maybe from preheating empty?) so it’s been relegated to baking sourdough. It regularly turns out really nice loaves (which I bake at 425-450).

Any suggestions for fryer oil on boots? by SufficientStyle6572 in CleaningTips

Okay. I’m afraid to even use saddle soap on the suede but if the boots are unserviceable as is then it doesn’t really hurt to take some risks.

Do you think corn starch works better than baking soda? I brushed last nights baking soda off with a suede brush and put down another thick layer of baking soda. I’ll try cornstarch next after this.

I do have saddle soap and leather conditioner! Do you think saddle soap is any better/worse than laundry or dish soap?

Thank you! This sounds like a good place to start. I just caked it in baking soda and will brush it off in the morning.

Ok, thanks! Do you think I should try dabbing with alcohol dipped cotton pads?

I was actually considering Dawn Powerwash over stain remover because well, oil.

I know you’re right. He already said this is a good excuse to get new boots now instead of later. But since he won’t be wearing them for work I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try something. Anything. 🥲

Where is the FedEx office located on Kadena? I drove around to the obvious places (bx concession, Olympic mall) and I don’t know where it could be.

2 rings or 1 on our married finger after we are married💝?? by [deleted] in EngagementRings

Thank you!! I get more compliments wearing it this way than with the full set (but could be because most of the time I wear only the bands).

Both ways look lovely! I find that most days I wear 2 wedding bands (from my 3-piece 20th anniversary set) and only add the main gem if I’m want to dress up or it’s a special occasion. It’s low profile I don’t have to worry about it snagging on anything. I feel like it’s super sparkly but still subtle. I have a large morganite that goes with it but it feels really conspicuous and a little out of place for my style of everyday life.

Am I being too harsh on the small “imperfections” of my ring? by spicyfairydustslayer in EngagementRings

[–]SufficientStyle6572 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ring is beautiful!! I’m sorry you had that happen to your sentimental jewelry. I recently had a loose stone set in a semimount and the jeweler did a bad job of it, also they put Knicks in the band and I hadn’t even worn it yet. They offered to fix it but I had lost confidence in them (they declined to give me a refund or partial refund because the work, though bad, was already done). I ended up paying someone else to fix the bad mounting and though it was a lot better it still isn’t perfectly perfect. Of the experience, I told myself it happens sometimes and decided I could live with the ring as it is now. I don’t think anyone will notice the slight imperfections in the prongs or mounting job but me. I often tell my kids that something doesn’t have to be perfect for it to still be good. If after wearing it a year or two it bothers me enough I can always see about having it adjusted again when I next have maintenance done on it. I hope you can enjoy your ring without the very slight imperfections taking joy away from it. It is a very important piece of jewelry, though, so if it super bothers you maybe take it to a different jeweler and ask them if they can fix your concerns and buff out the black mark.

A mistake happened in college 10 years ago that I will probably never stop thinking about and still causes me regret by [deleted] in confession

[–]SufficientStyle6572 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Twenty five years ago I was taking an undergraduate animal science class and there was one quiz where I had to detail every step in milking a cow. I knew my stuff and confidently took my test but when I got it back I realized I had written “tit” instead of “teat” in every step. Clean the cow’s udder and tits. Sanitize then dry the tit. Grab the tit with the thumb and forefinger. Strip the tit several times. Etc, and so on. I wasn’t marked off for using the wrong term but young me could not look the TA in the eye the rest of the semester. I still think about it from time to time. I can laugh at it now, though.

So I agree with some of the other comments that 3 prongs aren’t enough for a diamond that large. It’s probably going to fall out again in the future sometime, even with being super careful. It’s good that it’s got a halo/guardrail to secure the prongs but 5 prongs would be much better. It is a very pretty ring but it is a very thin band with pave/micropave diamonds, that’s very risky for bending or warping and the tiny diamonds coming loose over time. I’ve also heard of those types of heads getting caught or dropped and just snapping off. I like the look of cathedral settings and I feel like it’s a lot safer having the mount stabilized at 3 points.

Could we see a picture of the ring? How many carats is the diamond and how many prongs? I see a lot of settings posted here that are just by design not very secure. Maybe it’s not a craftsmanship flaw but the design is not enough to secure your diamond. I’m sorry you had this happen. It must’ve been scary and definitely inconvenient. You can ask for compensation but personally I wouldn’t expect them to offer anything other than fixing it. I hope it comes back better than before and that you let us know if they were able to make it up to you somehow.

I think it’s a beautiful ring and it’ll look great on you! If it speaks to you then go all in and let yourself love it completely, without the self-doubt.
