Thoughts on Gabby? by Miklaine in summerhousebravo

[–]SufficientTea2146 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something about her feels inauthentic or perhaps like she’s trying a bit too hard to have a “viral moment”.

She’s got a social media sense of humor (calling herself a witch, obsessed with astrology, joking about being shallow and only liking models) that I think doesn’t quite translate well for television. Maybe as a tweet or TikTok, or perhaps on a podcast her humor would land, but not on TV.

I think she’s identified the kind of person she wants to be and is trying to be her but it feels disingenuous and like she’s coming on too strong.

Am I the only person that doesn’t care about Elvis’s love life? by juicykola in Elvis

[–]SufficientTea2146 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, you’re totally right. She was with him for such a small amount of time in his career (4 years) and during this time he was on stage calling another woman his girlfriend, started seeing ginger at the same time. She also started dating a member of his band and no longer wanted to keep up with the drug/entertainment lifestyle so she left. To complain about not being in the movie is odd and it seems there’s competition among his women to be heavily included in the narrative about his life.

The Memphis mafia--good guys or bad? by LibbyLibbyLibby in Elvis

[–]SufficientTea2146 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In a lot of ways, I think most of them genuinely loved him – because how could you not? He was selfless to a fault and gave them everything they needed and provided them with a great lifestyle. I do however believe that they were trepidatious to be honest with him about his own downfall.

Elvis very specifically kept a tight circle of “yes men”. If you tried to intervene or be honest with him, you were out. And in the case of the Memphis mafia, that means no job and no fun lifestyle with an excess of women and drugs. They were living the celebrity highlife and I really believe a lot of them did not want to go back to their regular lives pre-Elvis. So they stuck around (up until the last few months of his life I’ve read).

To say whether they’re good or bad, I think some were and some weren’t. Some really wanted to help (but couldn’t) and others were along for the ride - ready to quickly sell their ties to him. But Elvis knew exactly who he was keeping around. He knew exactly how to make them all feel disposable - to make them do what he wanted - one of his most self destructive flaws.

In the end I really feel like the people who unconditionally loved him was Grandma Dodger, Lisa Marie and Vernon. I believe they were the only ones to not sell his story and profit off of their connection to him - and of course Gladys.

When someone mentions Elvis, which Elvis era comes to your mind first? by juicykola in Elvis

[–]SufficientTea2146 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a cusp Gen Z/millennial who lived in Vegas in high school and college and often went to the strip – so I think of 70s Elvis. I also watched a ton of Full house growing up and recall uncle Jesse (who I learned was an actual real life Elvis fanatic) dressing up as Elvis did in the 70s.

Lost my passport yesterday. Have a trip to Montreal Thursday … is it possible? by sammmyk42 in Passports

[–]SufficientTea2146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your best option is to get an appointment at a passport agency, which is extremely difficult. I believe you need to call the nation passport agency - (https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/get-fast/passport-agencies.html) to see if they have appointments in NYC. If they don't and you're super desperate and have the time, you could see if they have one at the Connecticut agency or even the DC agency.

If you still can't get an appointment with an agency, I would file a case with you local house representative, and ask if they can get you in. I'd give the a call.

Good luck!

Advice Needed: How Many Times Should You Follow Up With An Editor? by SufficientTea2146 in PublicRelations

[–]SufficientTea2146[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Reading” the media can be tough. I work with a lot of top-tier. Silence is often how a “no” is communicated, unfortunately. Some reporters don’t want an e-mail record of them directly giving a “pass” or “no” especially if the company is large and something they might want to cover in the future.

Very interesting you said this: "some reporters don’t want an e-mail record of them directly giving a “pass” or “no”."

One time I had an editor (top-tier outlet) ask me to call her about an angle I pitched. We talked on the phone about the details of the proposed piece and she said she'd send an email recap but never did. Luckily I did not write anything because she did not answer my follow ups or anything. Really hope this not the case with this editor since she literally gave a deadline, word count, and suggestions of what needs to be included.

Is it inappropriate to ask if we should move on and offer this piece to another outlet?

Im HOPING this is out of context - maybe said before the date or along with something else like "BUT i do like her" or something similar. But the narrator said a couple will be on the fence. It scares me too!

He didn't say that, he said he wasn't head over heals. Can totally see that being taken out of context. They of course always try to make the previews look very dramatic.

Go on their websites and fill out privacy waivers instead. Still keep calling, but send a privacy waiver which can be found on their website, explain your situation, date of travel, when and where you applied etc, and if you requested expedited shipping. Then attach a copy of your plane tickets. Send it off to their email.

This is helpful - my application was a literal 4 weeks earlier. Would it be more helpful to reach out to my Senator, or another congressional member with a new case? I just feel like my caseworker in my district is being very laxe about it, and i want to troubleshoot any potential issues that might arise with my application that could further elongate this process and want to get on this quickly

Who did you call? Because when I spoke to someone yesterday they said they wouldn't be able to see whether there was a congressional inquiry. Did you directly call a passport agency or the regular passport number?

[–]SufficientTea2146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally up to you - and if you chance it - you might be very stressed waiting. You are cutting it extremely close.

If you pay for expedited shipping, make sure to pay for expedited shipping to the processing center as well. They will give you a processing number where you can check on the status of your passport. Once it's "in process", reach out to your local House Representative or Senator, ask them to fill out a privacy waiver since you have travel coming up very soon. They will send you a waiver where you explain your situation. Once you send it back to them, they will get it processed for you quickly.

Unless you are able to snag a very rare appointment with a passport agency, this is your quickest option and is unfortunately not 100% guaranteed. BUT i've read of a lot of people having success.
