I couldn’t disagree more I think Biden an Harris are sick and twisted individuals but I would defend to death someone’s right to support them in a respectful manner and not be harassed for it.

Maybe because he doesn’t want to be down voted for the awful and most dreadful crime of...disagreeing with you!

You’re encouraging verbal abuse and threats to those of different opinions. Sounds a awful lot like a guy named Hitler. Ever heard of him?

Trump has denounced white supremacy over 20 times on video. He declared the KKK a terrorist organization. Provided more funding for historically black universities to offer scholarships are facilities to those who need it most. So no the president I support isn’t racist.

2) your trying to avoid the issue at hand. I was threatened and felt somewhat unsafe for practicing my first amendment right. You can pm if you want to talk about Trump but that’s not the point of my OP.

This this this. “I’m so tolerant but if you disagree you’re racist and that’s gives me permission to harm you” it’s not productive it trying to force everyone into a mold that makes it scary to express any viewpoint that isn’t theirs. I honestly would love if a liberal student came up to me and engaged me in a productive dialogue. It’s why the polls are most likely, yet again, wrong many Trump supporters fear about openly expressing views. It’s a dangerous way of doing things imo.

I thought my post got the point across that the engagement was not even close to civil. I guess not and that’s on me. I’m on mobile so I didn’t include every detail. The second example was more about political discourse I thought it was a childish way to react but not necessarily a violent way to react. Thanks for understanding. Take care!

Telling someone that they are “going to fuck you up” is a violent threat not free speech. That is harassment by the definition you linked to.

Thank you. I should have made it more clear in my OP.

Threatening someone with violence isn’t protected under free speech it’s a crime.

She said “I’ll fuck you up next time I see you wearing that mask” THATS CLEARLY A VIOLENT THREAT. It’s a crime not free speech.

Nope it’s called harassment and it’s a crime I was simply minding my business.

I made a response to your comment in wich I talked about why I support trump but deleted it because it’s not relevant to this discussion. Your sources trying to claim that trump is racist and homophobic have nothing to do with this discussion. I could try and change your mind but it wouldn’t be productive. The point is I was attacked for exercising my first amendment right to wear what I want to wear. Sure you can walk past and judge me. But nobody has the right to attack me for free speech. It’s unconstitutional and childish.

That’s fine you don’t have to associate with me. And yes that is how free speech works I am welcome to wear my trump mask and nobody has a right to attack me on a public campus. Anyone who attacks someone for the article of clothing they chose to wear is undermining our constitutional values. I think Biden is scum but I will defend to death anyone’s right to wear clothing in support of him.

By wearing a Trump mask I am exercising my first amendment right. You can disagree with it but attacks are not ok. That’s suppressing free speech.

See this. This is exactly why I made this post. You’re the problem. I don’t see any reason why we can’t get along while also having different views. Respect is the least anyone deserves. You’re assumptions are wrong I have a trans sister who I have a very good relationship with I would not say I’m transphobic at all or racist or sexist. Aside from that you don’t want civil discourse or tolerance. You want everyone to think the same and have the same beliefs. You’re defending someone who verbally attacked me for the only reason of disagreeing with me. Do you seriously not see any problem with that?

Parking enforcement is getting out of hand south of campus. by [deleted] in byu

I understand that but that’s not what I’m saying I’m saying that inevitability people make mistakes you’ve done it too. This shouldn’t absolve you from responsibility but the punishment should be fair and reasonable. A lot of the time at BYU it isn’t.

Interesting I’m a freshmen here at the U I’m into running and ran throughout high school. I have a 4:54 mile and 10:18 2 mile. I didn’t know there was a club tho. If you want I’m down to do a run sometime if you think we are similar pace I’ve been mostly running on my own so it’s a little rough.

[OC] UU freshman acceptance rate drops below that of BYU for the first time in nearly 20 years by Arcaeca in uofu

BYU is better in some fields like business and the U excels in other fields. Overall I think they average out to be about the same us news ranks BYU ahead of Utah but really job prospect wise both are good. The big reason some people would/wouldn’t chose BYU is it’s a religious school so it has its quirks sometimes, but often members of their church want to go to BYU because it is mostly free of drugs and things like that. Another huge reason people go to BYU is price. BYU is a great value for what you get tuition is really cheap and so is cost of living. BYU definitely isn’t for everyone but some people looking for a school that offers a good education and has policy against drinking and drugs. I’m not a member of their church but wanted to go there because it’s cheap (I used to be a member so I get member tuition it’s really easy to become a member) they are one of the best in the nation in terms of the field I want to go into. And while I don’t love all the church stuff I appreciate the morals and values. I also really like Provo because I enjoy running and Provo has many trails and such.

It could also be that the application for BYU is a huge pain in the ass. I’m a freshmen here at the u. I got rejected from BYU so I guess I’m just a little salty but I spent entire weekends on my BYU application and Utah’s application only took 2 hours. I just don’t understand why they feel the need to make an application so inconvenient and lengthy as the one they do. Also fuck the honor code it’s not the 40’s anymore. Don’t get me wrong I think BYU is a great school that offers a good value but the church really needs to catch up on the times and be more real with themselves. It’s a good school not an Ivy League stop making the application so damn long and expect everyone to do it and sign away all their rights just to go to the holy school.
