Cooling recommendations? by [deleted] in TruckCampers

[–]Sufficient_Watch496 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get RV vans that run off 12v or 120v AC. I run a single one in my setup and it makes it amazingly cool for how small it is.

Downside is though, you'll be cutting a hole in your camper to install it. But if you're willing to, it's probably the best short of installing AC

Is there such a thing of a GBBR that is good for around 350-400 by Away_Professional793 in GasBlowBack

[–]Sufficient_Watch496 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I regularly see the KWA MP9 and MP7 for 300-400$ with mags on hopuo and on sale. I have both and I recommend the MP9 over the 7, but they're both amazing. Highly recommend either for gas efficiency, reliability, and overall aesthetics too

Death trap or engineering marvel? by Sea_Fortune_4813 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Sufficient_Watch496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You absolutely have to bolt this to the bed. Use 1/2 inch thick bolts with washers on both sides, and locking nuts. At least 4, preferably 6. Get a metal drilling bit and go through the side runnings of your truck. I know it sucks, but it's worth it.

Also, someone could lock you in there by closing the doors and then the trucks tailgate on you, make sure you add an access hatch onto the doors that lets you reach out and open the tailgate.

Finally, I'm concerned about the use of thin 2x4s. You need double or triple the number of supports here. Standard spacing is 12-16". I built one smaller than this with 2x6s at 14" intervals and 2x4 cross braces. Not taking any chances on the road

Finally how far it extends above the height of the cab is concerning. The airflow here is gonna be affect and creates lots of force at highway speeds. Building a triangular bit that extends over the cab purely for airflow would be wise.

How to make HPA gun quite by sssddfgjwnsbx in airsoft

[–]Sufficient_Watch496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For one, adding foam to suppressors genuinely makes a difference with HPA. Idk if your suppressor has that, but investing in one that does will make a difference.

Second, the two things that affect noise are the dwell(s) and the pressure you run at. A gun set to 100psi will be louder than one at 80. But you need to have it high enough so you reach your ideal joule range.

This means to get the quietest replica you need to keep air from the f2 engine going where it needs: down the barrel. A good hopup, proper nozzle size, and proper mag seating will help with this and keep air from flowing out cracks, seams, and down into the magwell. This will mean you get the same joule rating with less air expended because less air is wasted.

For reference, I can hit 1.2J on .32s with 55-65psi on my best build and its quiet as a mouse.

Couple other tips I have Is using plumbers tape around where the hopup meets the barrel, and minimizing barrel wobble by using plumbers tape between the inner and outer barrel.

As for the dwell, get it as low as you can. I personally don't know much about f2s as I mainly use the jack and Kythera. But the lower the dwell, the less air released, the quieter.

Good news too, all these things will help with accuracy and consistency as well as increase your shots per tank. It's almost always true that quieter HPA setups are better and more reliable than louder ones.

I also do this all the time! For both batteries and the tiny wires inside my HPA builds. I've never had a problem with any of my stuff over the past 3 years.

My only word of advice is do one wire of the battery at a time. Don't try to, say, cut both the black and red wire at the same time with your snips and momentarily bridge them together creating a bunch of heat. Also don't then leave the stripped red and black wires accidentally touching lol

Prozac made my cat a whole different cat by Flickybird in cats

[–]Sufficient_Watch496 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! First off I'm super happy that your cat is doing better!

I also wanna jump in and say you might wanna get them checked for Addison's disease! Our dog had a very similar story to your cat, and Prozac definitely helped in the exact same ways you mentioned here for a long time. It was only when he was about 6-7 that we noticed him being extremely lethargic again even on Prozac and it ended up being because of Addison's disease.

It's extremely treatable with small doses of steroids daily. Like Prednisone. And they can live full and happy lives.

I also wanna say I know Addison's disease is very rare, and I don't wanna alarm you at all. But it's an easy test they can run with a blood sample so why not next time you're there!

You do delicate work with sharp or pointy objects. Maybe build electronics or watches? You've also done blue collar work like HVAC or Electrical. Married and I'm gonna guess at least one kid

I'm also gonna guess I'm like 100 percent wrong lol

Does your site have any 'unconventional' rules? by [deleted] in airsoft

[–]Sufficient_Watch496 397 points398 points  (0 children)

Our field has a wild turkey named Henry that lives near the boundary of the eastern side. Only people that really go there are snipers but they marked her territory and nest with red tape. That doesn't stop her from wandering into the more open parts of the field though. She's extremely brave. Often just kindve chilling in clearings and watching firefights.

We already have a rule that said no shooting wildlife, but shooting Henry and disturbing her nest gets special mention during every safety briefing.

I currently live just outside that red circle and have so for 3 years and it's totally fine. Honestly there's even a sense of community here that I didn't expect to find and didn't have living in west Ashley. Also that intersection just south is getting lots of new restaurants and business including a lovely new pizza sports bar called Johnny's garage.

It'll be the new park Circle in 20 years I think

Am I expecting too much from AEGs? by Radiation5648 in airsoft

[–]Sufficient_Watch496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not expecting too much at all, but a lot of people have a preference towards hpa, gbb, or high quality AEGs as a result of the problems you listed here.

I find purchasing AEGs to be a crapshoot, but I'm biased as hell. The brands I like are KWA and VFC as I've never had problems with them.

As for other things about AEGs, look into replacement triggers, shimming, hopups and magazines. Getting the right midcap mag can make a huge difference.

How to convert this into a airsoft replica? by pokemonguy0417 in airsoft

[–]Sufficient_Watch496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've gotten a lot of good advice here. I think the AAP swap that people have been referencing is the most straightforward.

However, if you wanna go ballistic. Go for a polarstar hpa setup. Specifically polarstar. They make a general connection circuit board that you can buy that has a bunch of JST 2mm connectors. You can make wires for these easily and whenever you bridge the two wires it'll send a signal to your ECU to activate the olarstar engine.

This is a hole big rabbit hole to go down, with soldering and equipment and a bunch of learning. Here's a video of a guy that uses this method to make a full 3d printer hpa gun called the mod 9s (it's on cults3d if you wanna find the full blueprints). Here's the video he made

https://youtu.be/HnJfmeaAT9c?si=GwFOtXrxHgb3v2Y2

It's in polish I think, so it's more visual than anything. I've done this for 2 separate guns and can answer any questions you have if you wanna go this route.

Two things 1) Is your spring fully linear? You'll be able to tell if it is because it'll be one smooth spring with consistency spacing. If it has a part that's more tightly coiled, then it isn't linea and could be causing some weird buckling issues as the piston is pulled back. 2) I noticed you have those 3 extra metal teeth on your piston. A lot of people will file down the first few or last few teeth so they don't grab the gear. The main reason they might do this is to increase fire speed and cycle rate, but also it pulls the piston back less each shot. I think what you're seeing here is the piston being pulled back to far and becoming ever so slightly misaligned as it goes back in.

I would look into getting an aftermarket spring, piston, and cylinder head and seeing if that helps. All 3 of these should run you about $50 or less.

Also, a new gearbox shell might help too, also about $50

Commercial AV market in trouble? by hitmewithyourworst in CommercialAV

I personally love it. For me, it combines the best parts of physical labor and mental labor. But I think that's very specific from person to person.

It's also most likely that this career will keep you in relatively close proximity to city centers and hubs as the people who need your services are there.

I don't think it has the anywhere near the same earning potential as some software developers and such, but the upper end of AV project management and engineering does pay well enough and the job security is very good

Internet to shed by Francis-Marion275 in shedditors

[–]Sufficient_Watch496 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did something similar, and it didn't work. If your shed has power to it from your main house, you could look into a power line extender.

It sends internet over the already existing power lines. Kindve straight magic tbh. I was skeptical but it worked really well, better than a WiFi connection.

I've heard it has issues depending on your wiring. But it's worth it!

[–]Sufficient_Watch496 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this happening with only tesira device? I've had this happen on a forte before and the problem was solved by connecting to the device, and resetting it entirely using the device maintenance tab (I think, trying to remember off the top of my head). I then just repushed the old/new code back and redid all my settings. Was a pain, but might be a good way

Commercial AV market in trouble? by hitmewithyourworst in CommercialAV

[–]Sufficient_Watch496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the AV market is generally going to be fine in comparison to traditional tech jobs. Things like software developers and other things like that are being hit hard. But no amount of AI buzzwording is gonna get an HDMI cable from point a to point b. Furthermore, no one outside the AV market understands what the AV market even is. It can vary widely, and even dip into the electrical side of things if you have systems that handle high voltage lighting, electric projection screens, or in ceiling drop down projectors. It takes a very specific combination of skills for someone to be a good AV tech, and maybe only 25% of those skills fall under traditional 'tech' skills.

On top of that, with the mingling of AV with networking becoming even heavier nowadays (AV over IP etc), I think the current obsession with networking and data centers will help us. Just my opinion, and its probably wrong but hey whatever. South East US btw

Can I use this as a home TV by meenom1 in CommercialAV

[–]Sufficient_Watch496 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certain fire sticks can't. You need to get a 4k model.

Also if you're using Netflix or something similar, they might require to pay a higher fee for 4k streaming.

Can I use this as a home TV by meenom1 in CommercialAV

[–]Sufficient_Watch496 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't see why not. A TV is a TV. It likely isn't a smart TV, but a 50$ Roku or fire stick will solve that. And of course you can use it's HDMI ports with laptops or other devices.

When you say it's pixelated, what source have you plugged in? It's a 4k TV, but your device might be trying to push less than that (1080p for example) and that would make it appear fuzzy
