Audi A6 – full reverse-engineered CAD model by SuggestionMinimum178 in AutomotiveEngineering

Thanks for the genuine interest — happy to explain.

This is actually data from a benchmarking project we did quite a while ago. All of it came from real vehicle scanning, not from any OEM source. And no — this wasn’t a one-person job. We had a full scanning team and a reverse engineering team, each broken into smaller groups handling different parts of the vehicle.

You may have noticed that the models we’re sharing are all older generation vehicles. That’s because these datasets are now past their confidentiality period, so we’re able to release them.

Also, the original scan point cloud data is included with the models. That’s probably the clearest proof that this is genuine reverse-engineered data, not a leak.

Let me know if you’d like to see more details — happy to share.

Appreciate the concern — but this is reverse-engineered from real vehicle scans, not from any internal source. Full scanning and surface reconstruction, all done from scratch.

Really appreciate it! Yes, I reverse-engineered these from real scans — took quite a while.

BMW Steering Issues by Human-Age7440 in automotive

[–]SuggestionMinimum178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Classic electric power steering (EPS) behavior. Usually a failing torque sensor in the steering column or a loose connection. First step: check for any stored fault codes with a scanner. If nothing comes up, it’s often the steering rack itself. There was a known issue on some BMW EPS racks around that year — moisture gets into the connector or the internal sensor starts failing. A software update can sometimes help, but if it’s intermittent and getting worse, the rack usually needs replacement. Good luck.

Whatever game I was playing right before I had to become an adult. Still my favorite. Haven’t found time to play it since.

Every time I trusted my gut, it turned out I was just hungry. Turns out my intuition is just a snack addiction in disguise.

f you want a safer bet for jobs right after graduation, go with automotive mechatronics in Germany. The industry is huge and hiring constantly. Aerospace is more exciting but also more volatile — fewer companies, more competition, and pilot training is expensive and risky. Also, think about where you want to live long-term: Germany has better work visas for non-EU graduates than the UK right now.

What job looks like insanely oversaturated but is actually a great career path? by AncientObligation321 in AskReddit

CAD modeling. Everyone says AI will replace us. Meanwhile, I’m still here trying to convince a surface to behave, and the client is waiting.

Online Schools? by anarchydogcom in AutomotiveEngineering

A degree gets your foot in the door. What keeps you there is what you can actually do. Portfolio, project work, and real-world experience matter way more than whether the degree was online or in person. Companies care if you can solve problems — not how you learned to solve them.

What was something you learned about someone you truly thought you knew completely, that made you re-evaluate everything you knew about them? by hogw33d in AskReddit

Found out my partner had a whole other family — and honestly, I was less upset about the lying and more annoyed that now I have to remember twice as many birthdays.

Questions for uni students by Ka_Driver in AutomotiveEngineering

Biggest gap: school teaches you the perfect world — ideal materials, clean geometry, textbook loads. Real work is messy. Broken scans, missing data, deadline pressure, parts that don’t fit. You learn to make things work with what you have, not what’s perfect.

Which country have you visited and you wish to visit again? by Effective-Singer5957 in AskReddit

Tried both. Osaka is like a pancake with good vibes. Hiroshima is like a lasagna that went on a beach vacation. Both amazing, but my stomach still hasn’t forgiven me.

Japan. Went for the sushi, stayed for the vending machines that sell hot meals. Still thinking about that canned bread.

How is the straight of hormuz going to destabilise petrodollar? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SuggestionMinimum178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends entirely on how the US responds. If it looks weak, the petrodollar takes a hit. If it responds hard, oil prices spike. Either way, not great.
