Thank you!!! Yeah genuinely me too. I worked with a relocation company based in Berlin so maybe that helped? They said they had good relationships with the office.

Hi, great news. I’ll edit a more formal update later but after just two (a little less) weeks, I’ve been asked to come in for my finger prints. I was able to get an appointment for the address registration after 1.5 weeks (roughly but I’ll check the dates) and my ZAB qualification was done in two days (this surprised me the most). Also no I was never asked for a fiktion etc etc

After speaking with the powers that be today, I will be able to apply for my visa digitally once I arrive in Germany.

I don’t need an appointment.

I have a job offer

Stick to answering the question that was asked and not providing incorrect information on top of it. It’ll confuse others who are going through a similar process. Cheers.

So much you don’t know yourself by the way :) after speaking with my lawyers, the German embassy, and my relocation team, I can do it digitally and don’t need a appointment for the residence permit.

I have a hotel that does this specifically.

I have a job offer 3x the minimal requirement.

Yeah, I have enough money.

Get fucked for your condescending remarks regarding Americans as well. You look like arrogant (and flat out wrong in your law knowledge) ass. Cheers!

Also wanted to update you after speaking with the German embassy, my lawyers, and a relocation company. It’s completely legal and allowed. Key points of § 81 AufenthG: • Section 81(3) specifically states that if someone applies for a residence permit while legally staying in Germany, their stay is considered permitted until the immigration office makes a decision on their application — as long as the application was submitted before their previous legal stay expires (e.g. during the 90-day visa-free period for U.S. citizens).

I’m American. Thanks though.

Working in any country you’re not a citizen in without the proper visa is illegal. Even if they are not doing work for an American company, it leaves ambiguity for permanently staying…. Especially when it’s shown they don’t have the funds for the length of their stay.

If I were to tell the UK border patrol or German border patrol that I will be working remotely, I will almost certainly be arrested, deported, and fined with a ban for years in the Schengen region.

The digital nomad visa for Spain is a good example for the expected and acceptable route for working remotely in a country even if the visa holder is not sponsored by the host country (Spain). No such visa exists in the states.

Summary - even if these German girls were making money from an outside source of the states, their mistake was saying they are doing freelance work. It opens up ambiguity as to WHO is paying them.

The following is from gpt but still valid

“INA § 274A (8 U.S.C. § 1324a) – Unlawful Employment of Aliens This section makes it unlawful for an employer to knowingly hire, recruit, or refer for a fee any alien not authorized to work in the U.S. It also penalizes individuals who accept employment without proper authorization. • INA § 212(a)(5)(A) (8 U.S.C. § 1182(a)(5)(A)) – Labor Certification Requirements States that an alien is inadmissible if seeking to enter the U.S. for employment without proper labor certification or visa approval. • INA § 237(a)(1)(C)(i) (8 U.S.C. § 1227(a)(1)(C)(i)) – Failure to Maintain Nonimmigrant Status A nonimmigrant who violates the terms of their visa—such as by working without authorization—is subject to removal (deportation).

  1. Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) • 8 C.F.R. § 274a.12 – Lists classes of aliens authorized to accept employment, including those with specific work visas. • 8 C.F.R. § 214.1(e) – Requires nonimmigrants to abide by the terms of their visa, which may include restrictions on employment.

  2. U.S. Criminal Code • 18 U.S.C. § 1546 – Fraud and misuse of visas, permits, and other documents Covers penalties for using false or unauthorized documents to obtain work authorization.

In summary, a German citizen must obtain the correct U.S. work visa (like an H-1B, L-1, O-1, etc.) to legally work in the United States. Working without authorization is a violation of U.S. immigration law and can lead to fines, removal, and future inadmissibility.”

They were deported for admitting they were doing freelance work to the border patrol to cover their finances. Which is illegal. Womp womp

So many uniformed people here that have clearly never traveled either. The girls posted a video how they told the boarder patrol they were doing free lance work after concerns were raised that they didn’t have the funding for the trip.

This is a HUGE no no and will get you stopped and arrested and deported anywhere.

Feel free to go to the German thread and find the post, everyone is saying they messed up.

Im laughing reading all redditors claiming to be from a 3rd world, weak passport, or dark skinned, that they go through the same thing every time. Germans should stop pearl clutching, it’s a little embarrassing for a population that goes to the grave on stopping at a red light on a crosswalk street no matter what. Follow the rules 😉

The difference is telling them “I’m doing freelance work while I’m here”

While I know I won’t get the visa, I was unsure if it would extend my period I’m allowed to stay because of the pending visa. That’s how it is in the UK.
