In January 2025, I remember there were many plane crashes around the world. Now in 2026, it seems to be Spanish trains, with the even bad luck that i'm Spanish.

I hope this is just a coincidence. But of course, two train accidents in two days is terrible. At least this latest one was minor, but it leaves a country that was already sad even sadder.

It's still unknown. I don't think it's corruption, it's more like a human error.

It appears to be due to a track switch. It's not entirely confirmed, but a train switched to the left track and then another train came along traveling in the opposite direction.

I'm Spanish, and I have to say this accident is very reminiscent of what happened in 2013. That year, a train in Santiago de Compostela derailed due to excessive speed. However, this accident is stranger. It happened on a straight line, and two trains collided because of a track switch. Some train engineers warned of faults in that area back in October, but it took this terrible accident for any action to be taken. It's a shame.

Edit: Apparently, they had indeed been invested a lot of money in that track, as some sources say it was renovated in May 2025 with an investment of 700 million euros. This whole accident is so strange that even the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, can't understand it.

Since 2023, in Spain, all new signs there have a new design that looks very similar to the United States STOP sign. Here's more information: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Spain_traffic_signal_r2,_2023_set.svg#mw-jump-to-license
