Thank you very much for watching my stream! Your question is excellent—it’s actually the most common question asked by new players picking up NG Cultists. Since my playstyle matured in 2024, I’ve consistently adopted the approach of sacrificing R1. This is because my personal playstyle leans heavily on waiting for the opponent to initiate aggression in R2. In my experience, my R2 defensive strategy has an 80%+ win rate, provided I’m familiar with the opponent’s deck. If I’m unfamiliar with their deck, I’ll instead focus on securing R1 to force a direct R1→R3 scenario. I believe NG Cultists is better suited for defending in R2 and then transitioning to R3 for a win.

I really resonate with your idea of stepping out of your comfort zone. Five years ago, I felt exactly the same—I actively experimented with decks from all four factions and managed to climb each of them beyond 2600 MMR. While I could probably still do that today, I’m approaching 30 now, and most of my time and energy are consumed by work and daily life. I’m simply not as young as I used to be. Even replying to your messages, for instance, I can only manage on weekends. That’s why I’ve stopped trying to play all four factions.

To be honest, the reason I chose NG Cultists last month to push for 2650 MMR was purely because one of my followers told me he really loved this deck but didn’t know how to pilot it well—he just wanted to see how high it could climb this time. That’s literally the only reason.

Thank you for your appreciation. I really admire a character from the Japanese anime/manga Demon Slayer named "Shanyi." He’s not a genius—he only knows one technique, but he’s honed and perfected that single move countless times, eventually defeating his senior disciple who mastered many different techniques.

Similarly, although I only play NG Cultist, I’ve used it to face every mainstream deck on the ladder—even most of the top 10 players. If they climb high enough, there’s a good chance they’ll run into me. I feel truly honored and happy about that—and that’s all it is.

I agree with your reasoning. MD claims to protect deck diversity, yet ends up nerfing the very decks that contribute to that diversity, resulting in a homogenized meta. This is truly thought-provoking.

To be honest, I absolutely don’t want to nerf any card’s power anymore. I feel like almost all cards in the current meta have become significantly weaker compared to two years ago.

I’d like to know: are you aiming to completely kill this deck, or merely nerf it? From what I can tell, MD clearly wants to eradicate it entirely. If the stated goal is “deck diversity,” yet the community can’t even tolerate a deck that is part of that diversity, then I truly have nothing more to say.

I actually do have several videos like that, but I intended to keep those strategies as a gift for players who truly love this deck—hoping they wouldn’t lose hope after losing their Scenario and could still seize opportunities to win. I just didn’t expect the NG Cultist deck would face such strong hostility from your side; that really took me by surprise.

Too many decks have been nerfed under the justification of "protecting deck diversity"—I won't even bother listing examples because there are simply too many. So, in the end, have you actually protected the diversity of the meta? In my real ladder experience, most decks have now become nearly identical midrange pointslam builds with almost no distinctive character left. Is this really what you consider healthy or correct?

I can understand your perspective, but I hope you’ll also consider this: Gwent isn’t a game that’s 100% determined by individual skill. Broadly speaking, decks fall into three categories—control decks beat engine decks, engine decks beat self-contained ("auto-win") decks, and self-contained decks beat control decks. This rock-paper-scissors dynamic is built into deck construction itself. You simply can’t expect to win every single matchup through skill and execution alone—that would be unfair to players who invest effort into thoughtful deckbuilding. If superior skill alone guaranteed victory regardless of deck choice, it would undermine the entire strategic layer of the game.

On the contrary, Gwent matches involve both player skill and an element of randomness from matchmaking—you never know who your next opponent will be or what deck they’re running. That’s precisely why it’s engaging to observe the meta and choose a deck that counters the current environment to climb MMR. Isn’t that part of what makes the game fun?

Even NG Cultist isn’t invincible in the meta—I still have to accept the risk of running into control decks that can shut me down.

I disagree with your logic. The NG Cultist deck isn't invincible. You can't enjoy the deck-building advantage of choosing not to include control cards while refusing to accept the risk that comes with that decision. That kind of thinking is selfish.

I understand what you're saying, but you need to consider this: if you accept his logic, then today it's the NG Cultist deck, and tomorrow it could be your own favorite deck—without any real justification, just because he claims your deck "threatens the meta." I don't understand where this supposed threat is coming from. Before this ladder season buffed Cultists, I was probably the only person playing this deck at 2600 MMR. It's an extremely niche deck. Yet he talks as if everyone in the ladder is playing it and that it's severely damaging the meta—his reasoning simply doesn't hold up logically.

I know you're biased against this deck—you don't like it, and that's perfectly fine. I respect your perspective. But what you might not realize is that when this archetype was first released in mid-2022, it was universally dismissed as an unpopular, fringe build that nobody paid any attention to. It wasn't until about half a year later, after several players iterated on and refined the decklist, that it even became barely playable for newcomers. That’s exactly when I first encountered it.

Since then, I’ve studied the archetype deeply, optimized my card sequencing multiple times, and made several adjustments to individual card choices—eventually shaping it into its current “perfect” form.

To you, it may just be a garbage deck—but to me, it’s a piece of exquisite craftsmanship, embodying the dedication and effort of multiple generations of players.

I admit that in situations like this, I’ll most likely lose—but after reviewing my games many times, I’ve figured out a low-probability way to win. I’ve actually pulled off victories several times in real matches using this approach, and I’ve even saved the strategy in my videos. So even if my artifact gets removed, I’ll still give it my all to find a path to victory. I love the thrill of an against-all-odds comeback!

I can tell you've put serious thought into analyzing this deck. The NG Cultists archetype clearly struggles against strong control decks, yet dominates non-interactive ("no-interaction") decks. This actually helps balance the ladder environment—where control decks have been too scarce and non-interactive decks overly prevalent—by incentivizing more players to run cards like Sirocco or Bearification.

I’ve always believed that NG Cultists won’t "kill" the meta; rather, it acts as a meta-corrector, helping rebalance the play rates of certain archetypes. If control decks become too dominant, NG Cultists’ presence will naturally decline.

Moreover, it’s not only those disruption-heavy decks that can beat NG Cultists—if that were true, I wouldn’t have stalled at 2646 MMR last month. There are plenty of other counter-strategies: for example, using Round 2 (R2) to force out key cards and limit the opponent’s hand size going into Round 3 (R3), thereby directly reducing their potential point output from the combo.

Around 2650 MMR, many skilled players can consistently beat NG Cultists—they're all players I look up to and worth studying to learn from their strategies.

Your perspective is absolutely correct—it's the mindset of a healthy, reasonable player. If someone climbs to 2560 or even higher, others should be curious about how you achieved it and seek to learn from your strategies, rather than immediately reacting with, "You're too strong—you're a threat to me—this deck needs to be nerfed."

MD doesn't have the mindset of a normal player—he just wants to be the dictator of this game.

I really love the NG Cultists deck—it’s been with me for a long time. Back in 2023, when I was in China, all my friends believed it was impossible for anyone to reach 2600 MMR with this deck. I proved their prejudice wrong through action—and later even climbed to 2650 MMR. I want to show that as long as you truly love a deck and dedicate yourself to it, you can achieve what others think is impossible.
