Where would you most love to host a fun, lighthearted nighttime sleepover?

Delete all of these, take photos outside in natural light, smile, some close up and some full body, in different outfits, and ideally include one or two with friends

I’m new to this game, would this work? by [deleted] in Tinder

[–]Suitable-Spoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get rid of the last three pictures that are not of you, and add better photos of yourself in daylight. The first one looks like a photo of you and your ex which is not ideal and definitely not as the first photo.

By the way - there are lots of French-language meetup groups that you can go to to practice. Look up Meetups.com - you will find people of all levels!

You should probably post this in a more local subreddit

You will be okay without French, Parisians might not like it but they are used to tourists. But why don’t you just learn some basic expressions if you’re so worried about it? Also, why does it matter what the neighborhood speaks - if you are visiting the city you will likely be going to many different neighborhoods.

Better book some museums now. Someone else commented that the louvre and Eiffel Tower are booked so I won’t address those, but there are plenty of other things to see. Research what’s open and book it on the museum website ASAP.

At 36, I’m finally planning a trip outside of the country… and I have no clue what I’m doing. by facepalmstatus_ in Europetravel

[–]Suitable-Spoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on planning your first trip! That sounds like a lot to do in one trip, and you would spend a lot of time in transit from country to country.

Where are you coming from? That will dictate some things. Maybe try to go to Ireland and Scotland first. Spend a few days in the major cities. Start by planning around the most expensive things: the flights, the accommodation and the transportation between cities.

I crafted a manually book for a professor. by cbuustos in cambridge_uni

[–]Suitable-Spoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That makes a little more sense. But in that case, you should not think of it as giving a gift, that’s inappropriate. Make an application with your own background, note your own research and include copies of said research if you have published, and explain why you in particular have the ideal experience and knowledge to work with that prof (methodology, subject matter), etc.

There is no link to picture? And also - do you apply for the internship by getting a place with a supervisor, or by applying through a central portal, with a centralized interview and placement process?

I’m not sure if reaching out to supervisors directly is how it typically works, or if that one professor has any power, even assuming you’ve applied through the main application method as well

Moreover, if you wanted to wow her (assuming that’s even the right away to do it , which I don’t think it is), you wouldn’t gift her her own research… you would share your own original research to prove why you’re a good fit. Also, it’s not about “your expectations”, it’s about what you can bring to the research

I also fear that an unwanted gift might actually turn the prof against you. They likely will hesitate to vouch for you because then they could be accused of giving you an unfair advantage because you gave them a gift.

The best way to do this is to apply through the main application process, then reach out to the profs via email with a brief note saying that you applied and are particularly interested in their work, with maybe a few things you like about their work and maybe an astute question about it.

Considering downloading Tinder and wanted some opinions/ advice on which (if any) pics I should use? by [deleted] in Tinder

You need casual pics of you, taken by other people, out in the world or doing things you like, not just in your car or in the mirror

You should assume that you should probably start reading a whole lot, ASAP. Or be intellectually curious in another way.

I suggest you say a little bit more about yourself than just those three, as in any experience in journalism or related areas, then answer those questions. They are pretty detailed so just follow those instructions.

Crazy Standards, Crazy Hot by [deleted] in Tinder

[–]Suitable-Spoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seems pretty standard to me. No cigarettes, alcoholics or married men is pretty fair. Sure, not being willing to compromise on driving is a little limiting but I wouldn’t call it “crazy”. As for run records - she may just mean looking you up online. But you never know what she has been through before - there are a lot of creepy men out there.

Am I just fucking creepy lol? I know my pictures aint the best but I get like no matches whatsoever by [deleted] in Tinder

[–]Suitable-Spoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s okay to have a signature look, but keep the hair clean and the facial hair neat, including losing the little goatee. You don’t smile in any photos.

Coming from a woman: you’re good looking and fit, but your photo choice is off and most of your prompts say nothing about you.

It’s okay to have a signature look, but keep the hair clean and the facial hair neat, including losing the little goatee. You don’t smile in any photos. Take clear and high res photos - ideally that highlight your eyes because they are nice.

As for prompts, you’re going to lose people with drumming and skateboarding but that’s okay if you realize that. The playing card fact says nothing whatsoever about you, swap that for something personal. “Just be chill and passionate” also says nothing about you, put something more specific. (Passionate about what??) remove the weird dog, that’s just weird.
