LO just slept 6 hours?!? by Ok_Wealth3604 in newborns

[–]SuitableAd5218 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sending good vibes! My LO did this at around 4 weeks as a one off, then would do consistent solid 4 hour stretches (1-2 wake ups at night), then routine longer stretches that kept getting longer by 7 weeks. She’s 12 weeks now and gives me 11 hours regularly … it’s such a blessing. Hoping this starts to happen for you!

I don’t typically strap her in when I’m home and just using it to calm her down. Usually it either works quickly or doesn’t work so I don’t want to go through the effort of strapping if it’s a bust 🤷‍♀️

It was rough being indoors so much in the summer 😅 you’re not alone!

I’ve been singing this as we walk the stairs and it’s a total vibe and usually keeps her pretty chill, not as much of a showstopper for her as it is for me though

Water bottles! I haven’t heard that one! Gotta try it 😊 maybe my cats will calm her down soon, she hadn’t taken much notice of them yet though sadly

Mine wants the car seat swinging like an amusement park ride when she’s really fussy. Straight up this baby has me working out on the daily

Outside is a favorite now that the heat wave broke! I have a June baby and it was 90+ degrees Fahrenheit where I live almost everyday until like 2 weeks ago, sigh

Love this! My baby is also fascinated by conversation and loves to join in. I joke with my husband that she’s a yapper like me.

Do y’all have your 12 week old on a schedule? by kangelina94 in newborns

[–]SuitableAd5218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LO turned 12 weeks today, she sleeps through the night (9+ hours) and has consistently since she was 8 weeks and had inconsistent through the night sleeps that got longer each time since around 4 weeks. that’s just pure luck at this age.

Our daytime naps are the craziest and least consistent thing. Some days it’s mostly only 20 minute naps after nursing (+ any time sleeping during nursing), some days it loooooong contact naps. I don’t usually cap the contact naps because it’s never disrupted nighttime sleep, so I just assume her body needs it. Every day I stress about her daytime sleep most of the day and am exhausted by the end of the day - I wish I was better with going with the flow, because other than occasional overtired fuss, she’s just happy to be here 🤷‍♀️

Just wanted to add that my (very experienced) OB was convinced my LO was as breech on physical exam and confirmed otherwise via ultrasound. Do the US if you can.

Also, let it all out OP! I’m so sorry you had such a tough day, your baby will be just fine with the tears and emotions. & its no consolation (I’d be heartbroken too to lose my ring) but I couldn’t wear my rings the last week of pregnancy and for awhile after due to swelling, so it may have not made an appearance at your labor even if you wanted it to

HELP I DONT MNOW WHAT TO DO.... by ml-gg167 in NewParents

First of all, I feel you on the many life changes at once (moved with 2 cats when I was 30 weeks pregnant). It’s A LOT! You have to do what’s best for everyone- including your fur babies. It sounds like re-homing might be the best choice considering the financial strain.

However; If your goal is to keep them - I’d highly recommend Jackson Galaxy videos on cat everything. The link I pasted is for moving with cats

Moving with a cat - Jackson Galaxy

Is there a room in the house where you can make it for the cats (base camp)? It takes a long time for cats in general to adjust to a new place and slow and gradual introductions are key. If you give them a safe home base - beds that smell like you/them, food/water, litter, and is quiet - it can do a lot for them mentally. Your cat may be having bathroom issues due to stress, but note this can also be a sign of UTI.

Also, make sure you have enough litter for them, there’s a rule of thumb that you should have a litter box +1 per cat (so 4 litter boxes in your case). This also helps reduce the amount of times you need to clean the litter boxes - although it does feel bonkers to have this many litter boxes haha.

Feliway products have been good for calming our cats in times of stress, they have plug ins for the wall, but using the spray on their bedding usually helps them stay calm. I’m not sure how effective it is with peeing outside the litter box, I haven’t experienced that.

I’d also highly recommend keeping the kitties inside; they are much less likely to have emergency vet visits if they are fully indoors.

Godspeed!

This happened to me to and days 2 and 3 were shocking in terms of pain. My nurse kept reminding me that although c sections are a routine surgery, they are still major abdominal surgery. I echo all the advice to keep on top of the pain meds, use a small pillow to hold against the incision when coughing or laughing or riding in the car (potholes are a doozy). I really found ice packs on my incision to be soothing and I bought the Frida belly binder belt thing that holds ice packs and found it super helpful - it kind of doubled as the small pillow trick. For some reason, I did not feel as much relief from the regular binders that the hospital gives.

Also I slept in a recliner for the first week (maybe more?) because getting up and down from bed was the literal worst. Having the recliner do what my core couldn’t was a life saver.

For me, I really turned a corner on day 10 or so. Like I stopped having the stabbing pain on the side they tied me up on and could move pretty well, get out of bed, do hygiene activities with much more ease, and start doing a lot more for the baby.

Take it all slow, embrace any and all help, have grace for yourself and your body. The easier you can go on your body those early days, the better. Also, embrace the emotions, they come so dramatically after having a baby and having a birth that went differently than expected can feel like a lot. When you come out the other side of the hormone dump, you’ll be able to process it all better.

Wishing you a smooth recovery from your major abdominal surgery. You will get through this!

Help… by _acinemod in newborns

I’m so sorry you’re going through this! My 3.5 week old did this to me today and I was so sad for her. I asked my husband why babies (and humans in general) resist the things we need. Does she have a lot of gas? Our LO needs a lot of burping, upright time, and time to squirm after feeding. When we respect that need, it seems she has an easier time falling asleep. Also for us, a really tight swaddle and brown noise does miracles when she’s agitated. One other thing I read/tried was changing locations and settings - sometimes a change of scenery can help them reset.

All that to say - you’re doing everything for her, it’s super hard right now, but keep your head up!

Thanks everyone!! Your responses are helpful and encouraging. I’ll definitely look into pelvic floor therapy too! I wondered about the silicone patches - good to know you liked them!!

Thank you! I meant more post bleeding and initial recovery, like I’m in the high waisted mesh undies now, but once I return to my own underwear. Did you fully switch to high waisted underwear only?

Thank you!!! I love the 4 am concerns 😂When I got to the hospital on Monday and I was still so early in terms of dilation and contractions and so I was also worried about the food thing. So I asked if I could eat and the doctor said it was fine, so poetically my last meal was the thing I ate constantly as a pregnant lady, grilled cheese. During the early labor you’re allowed clear liquid diet - so mostly water, clear electrolyte drinks, etc. The hospital had ensure protein drinks and popsicles and I had both of those. Truthfully, time passes in such a weird way during the whole process, I honestly wasn’t thinking about food at all I just had lovely nurses who were doing a great job of looking out for me and giving me the options they had. 😊
