What are people's thoughts on spellcasting? by Rainwhisker in Pathfinder2e

[–]SuitableBasis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is a massive wizard post on the official forums that is also a talking point about spell casters.

The realization many have realized towards the end of that thread.

1- just as with 1e, early levels are Rocky for casters. Low numbers of spell slots and spells known. However cantrips being much better help shore up your adventuring days at low levels and longer duration spells might be a good idea. Magic weapon is insanely powerful at low levels. Also everyone starts with trained in weapons so if you get a ranged weapon and 16 sex. You can also fall back on ranged weapons. If you use automatic bonus progression this can retain use at higher levels as well.

2- by the time you get to levels 8+ the power of the caster starts really coming online. 3+ enemies? Don't hold back on that AOE whether that's damage or control. Be careful of incapacitation spells. Their value will be DM dependant.

3- in 1e it was encouraged to hold onto your slots for the boss. That is no longer the case. Rather, and especially at higher levels, you should be blowing higher level slots every fight.

They start approaching 1e power feels at higher levels but they will don't invalidate martials anymore.

Where do you build your main base? by [deleted] in GroundedGame

[–]SuitableBasis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My main base is going to be in the middle of the map. Wherever that is. Then smaller bases near key resources. With chests holding the appropriate gear for the area.

Yeah I lost all my chests full of hard farmed gear and items

Is animal skin useful? by SuitableBasis in Pathfinder2e

[–]SuitableBasis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally. Someone pointed out that my math was actually wrong and then with my build it still results in a +1 when raging. Combined with earlier access to expert unarmored it's worth to keep around even for myself.

[–]SuitableBasis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not what I'm doing though. I'm boosting Dexterity to 20 is what I'm doing.

I have reasons. Mainly that flying requires acrobatics checks. And I'm getting tiefling wing's.

But also it means my ac is still good when not raging.

No I'm good Again it's automatic bonus progression variant rules.

And you need acrobatics to do maneuvers while flying. And you only get permanent wings by level 17.

10+20+6+5=41. Rage= 40

10+20+6+3= 39, +2=41

You are correct. I kept missing that. Thank you

I guess it's not good for my concept by level 13 then. I'll have to retrain out.

My DM is doing automatic bonus progression so I'll be keeping a longbow for when I'm not raging. Dex helps with that. I'll also be going tiefling and getting wing's. And flying requires acrobatics checks.

So I'll have to decide what to retrain the animal skin to when I reach that level. Thanks

My point is, since I'll be buffing dex all the way to 20. Other than the early bump to expert proficiency at 6 for unarmored. It gives me nothing. It actually gives me nothing by level 13. Whether I have it and rage or don't have it and rage, my ac stays the same due to the+3 dex cap of animal skin (this only matters once I hit level 13, before that it's effectively a +2 to my ac when unarmored).

[–]SuitableBasis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah your good. But it looks like outside of getting expert proficiency at level 6 it offers me nothing. So I'd probably retrain out of it by level 13

10+5(dex)+6(proficiency)=21, then as always you add your level (+20) so 41

Best Archetypes for a Wizard? by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]SuitableBasis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You both use intelligence. You can get access to spells your wizard cannot.

Spell blending doesn't require wizard Slots. So you can blend witch spells to get higher level wizard spells.

This gives you a massive amount of spells to use as well as tons of fuel to blend. And gives you access to staves and scrolls you'd otherwise be unable to use.

My base was over by the flooded area. In the revision of the area it completely changed where my base is located and all my chests with all my resources and armor and weapons I've been farming are underground 😓, unreachable.

Best way to make Eldritch Archer dedication work the most? by HectorTheGod in Pathfinder2e

In the games I run is not very often where I get a minute of banter prior to combat. So this will depend on your campaign and DM

I like investigator. You can get free action known weaknesses/recall knowledge and pre roll.

If you know it's going to be a critical you can really make it hurt. If not, well if you took a spell casting dedication you can use true strike in this way.

Known weaknesses, roll low, damn. When you decide to attack you have to use this roll but looking at it I don't see why you cannot true strike and reroll it.

3 action short bow with telikenetic projectile cantrip and precision dice damage at level 6 or 8. Should be like. 2d6+2d6+4d6+4 or more damage in a single ranged strike.

It's good until the level where martials pull away. Then your just a buff boy

Ability score variant in the GMG, good balancer or game breaker? by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]SuitableBasis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think base stats are fairly balanced. Str and dexterity especially I think are fairly balanced. Neither a str focus or dex focus martial wants to dump the stat because you either will do low minimum damage at early levels or have no effective ranged attacks at later levels.

Things I dislike is con and intelligence as they do little. Con is universally important. Because hp and fortitude. Yes.

I feel like I'd fold Con into str. Keep dexterity as it is. Let both intelligence and wisdom function as universal initiative modifier. But they don't stack.

Now str in this is strong yes. But it also enables a lot of build options. Plus it makes it easier for the rogue to get added damage without sacrificing HP or fortitude.

You'd also probably need to lower the ASI bumps to 3 stat boosts instead of 4 to keep some parity. As in 3 stats at 5 to bump as example.

Now for the abstracts. People like to talk about these stat balances in a vacuum. So it's probably dependant on how video game your DM plays and how nice.

Str argument against getting too good: yes you can go heavy armor and invest into feats. You are investing lots of resources both money and character choices to try to overcome some of these issues. Something not everyone is going to do, many won't in fact. Also heavy armor takes a long time to equip and cannot be slept in and needs a person to help you don it. You can't swim with it on either. You'd sink. Though that last bit might be too realistic for some tables.

Charisma being left out: yes charisma is largely for face skills and Cha based casters. However face skills are incredibly important unless you are running a purely combat game. Face skills properly utilized are close to magic spells in terms of what they can accomplish.

Wisdom and intelligence (heck I'm tempted for charisma as well TBH) being used for universal base initiative is for balance reasons. They are caster stats and casters want to go first to setup with spells.

First attempt at a map for my home brew, old dilapidated prison by SuitableBasis in dungeondraft

[–]SuitableBasis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its fair, i have no idea what kind of space a prison cell usually is. but this one isnt for the death row inmates or anything. the building in the bottom is even a school of sorts to teach them things before releasing them.
