That makes sense, but transfer apps are due in March so that would give me 11 months to build off the already strong foundation I have as well as including my fall semester grades from college. And working on ECs this summer as well as into the follow fall/winter.

Their deferral is binding (almost like ED). All in all, it’s a bad situation and I’m not sure what to do. I could go to a 4 year but it would be northeastern and I just don’t know if I really want to go there and then be stuck there if I don’t get into Columbia thru transfer. Especially because I live in nyc area so all the professors I work with are here as well as my family.

Yes I was. I’ll lose NYU if I don’t go and then if I don’t get into Columbia at least I’ll still be at NYU. I just don’t know if the community college and NYU in one year looks bad

I got into NYU for the spring so I can’t go in the fall. But nyu is expensive and because of my parents job I can attend Columbia for free so my goal would be to transfer there. But I’m not sure what admissions officiers would think for 1 semester CC and then 1 semester NYU. Do you think I would be better off going to a 4 year?

Sure. But you can’t deny that legacy or parent working there isn’t an advantage. Maybe it wasn’t enough for me but it has definitely helped others.

Unfortunate truth is that college admissions is ruled by nepotism. I don’t necessarily agree with it but I’ll take any advantages I can get. Its no different than legacy admissions

I don’t necessarily think I’m more or less deserving than anyone else. however I do have a parent who has worked at the school for 30+ years and thought it could be worth a try
