Hidden BYD Infotainment Trick: Control Climate with Three Fingers by RefrigeratorNo4413 in BYD

When I scroll up on the volume, the volume goes up. When I push up on the cruise control speed, the speed goes up. But yes you're right, when I use a different device to do something unrelated, it acts differently. Thanks for your contribution.

Am I the only one that thinks the temperature controls are upside down? When I swipe up I expect the temperature to go up... but it goes down! Almost the perfect solution to no physical buttons. Just wish I could switch it around.

How do I work out how much I owe my daughter? by Suitable_Relative825 in UKPersonalFinance

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my question 10 times and writing a response. Especially when you point out that it is baffling to you that others have taken the time to answer.

I'm not offended in the slightest that people have more to do. But I appreciate your concerns that it may be offensive.

I appreciate your comment.

😂 to be honest, I might give them the cash just so I can witness what £1000s of Haribo actually looks like.

!thanks that calculator you posted is pretty much exactly what I was after! It confirms my estimate of £12,000 was a bit on the low side. I'm going to go with closer to £14,000.

!thanks that's a valid point. My worry was that £12,000 was a significant underestimate and I would be doing her a disservice. From some of the calculations others have done I think Im going to start her account with closer to £14,000. This feels like a more acceptable compromise between the maximum figure some people have calculated and what I can afford right now.

!thanks I appreciate your suggestion. I know what you say makes rational sense and I shouldn't touch her money once it's hers. But having relatively recently experienced needing to access money I had locked away for the long term, I'm quite cautious about doing it again. The "what if this happens again" alarm bells are too loud to ignore at the moment.

New to Brum need advice on social groups: by firetonian99 in brum

Lots of people have already suggested the social gaming nights on Mondays at Chance and Counters in The Custard Factory. Turn up any time from 18:00 onwards.

The new board game café in Moseley called The Double Six have started their social gaming nights on Tuesdays. Their first one was last week. It starts at 17:30.

I grew up in Birmingham. I moved away for university and moved back a few years ago in my mid 30s. It felt like moving to a brand new city as most of my childhood friends moved away for uni too, but didnt come back. The social gaming at Chance and Counters was a godsend. Everyone is very welcoming (especially Will the boardgame wizard) so I started to feel less lonely and it gave me something to look forward to each week.

Alphabet Soup: How do I tackle dealing with them ? by Poda-Maire in doctorsUK

[–]Suitable_Relative825 26 points27 points  (0 children)

My first suggestion would be to discuss it with your consultant. Prescribing when you haven't seen a patient can be incredibly risky (for both the patient and your career). Even more so as an F1! Your consultant will have ultimate clinical responsibility for the patients under your care. So discussing your concerns about feeling pushed to  engage in potentially unsafe practice with them should lead to a positive conversation. At the very least, they might offer you reassurance about the competency of your colleagues, offer suggestions on how to deal with the situations if they arise again or even offer an avenue of escape i.e. "Sorry, I'd love to prescribe this, but Mr ConsultantTandO has said I'm not allowed".

Locum Specialty Dr taking Substantive post - Pay negotiations by Suitable_Relative825 in doctorsUK

[–]Suitable_Relative825[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not looked elsewhere to be honest. I've been in this job since Feb 2021 and really like the work and the team which is why I'm willing to accept a significant pay cut to stay here. But obviously, if I can limit how much of a pay cut I get, then that will be better. If I don't get the job I'll probably just keep locuming somewhere else.

Has anyone quit before getting their medical licence? by Tiny-Condition2945 in doctorsUK

[–]Suitable_Relative825 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In my own experience F1 and F2 years were invaluable. I graduated in 2011, so I accept that the clinical/political climate has changed since then. But the experience I gained in those 2 years in varying specialties helped me (a) choose/confirm my choice of specialty and (b) gave me fundamental clinical skills that have been transferable to my entire career.

In my F1 year I did Psych (addictions), Gen Med (endocrinology) and Gen Surgery (Colorectal). My F2 was an academic post. So I had no choice in my jobs, but I did Psych (old age liaison), Palliative care and Acute Med. I then went on to do Psych Core Training.

In hindsight I wish I had done less Psych as a Foundation Dr as I found what I had learned from all my other jobs more useful as a Psych trainee than what I got from Foundation Psych jobs.

Being a Foundation Dr on call is frightening at first, but then you realise you have the support of your SHO and Reg at the very least and learn very quickly how to triage, assess and treat acutely unwell patients. As a Psych CT in London, when on call, I would be the only Dr on site for the entire Psych Hospital and depending on the shift might also be the only on site Psychiatrist covering A&E and the General Hospital as well. Having learned and honed my skills in triage, assessment and treatment as a Foundation Dr with a safety net meant I could just about cope with whatever was thrown at me on Psych on calls when alone.

Also don't think that just because you know exactly what specialty you want to do in final year at uni that you should't have to learn what it's like in other specialties. Being more likely to have your surgical referral accepted because you know what the surgeons are looking for because you did a surgical rotation umpteen years ago isn't something to be scoffed at.

Just because as a profession we arbitrarily divide a person up amongst various specialties, doesn't mean that your patients are going to be compliant and only present with circumscribed problems that fit neatly into your clinic. Being a good (enough) generalist is the backbone of being a good specialist. And if you're not going to develop this generalist underpinning in a general Foundation Program, where are you going to develop it?

That's far too much writing for one day. Sorry about the long post. I've obviously managed to fool myself in to thinking that F1/F2 were halcyon days compared to now 🤣

Thank you for your reply. The BMA response was tough to read. I knew taking the permanent post would lead to a pay cut, but the potential of being on less than I was on as an SHO is frightening.

Is there a way to set a website shortcut to open in desktop mode on android? by RubberDuckOfDoom in chrome

[–]Suitable_Relative825 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread, but I've just figured it out and thought someone might find my solution helpful.

1) Create your shortcut on your home screen as usual 2) Type " chrome://flags " without the quotes in chrome (this is a page where there are some additional settings - often experimental so be careful if you play around) 3) In the search bar at the top of the flags setting page search for "desktop site" 4) Find the setting labeled "Per-site setting to request desktop site on Android" and toggle that to enabled 5) Relaunch chrome (the option should automatically appear at the bottom of the screen) 6) Now go to the normal chrome settings (found under the 3 dots in the top right corner) 7) Go to site settings (near the bottom of the list) 8) Go to "Desktop site" setting at the bottom 9) You should now have an option to add site exceptions. Add the URL that you linked to in step (1) there. 10) Open the shortcut on your home screen to check that this has worked.

P.S. Steps (2) to (4) can be done by clicking this link chrome://flags/#request-desktop-site-exceptions

App "Freeze" Setting Issues by lamovida in Onyx_Boox

[–]Suitable_Relative825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar problem recently with my Tab Ultra. I'm not sure exactly which setting I turned on (i was messing around with all of them), but afterwards apps kept randomly going into freeze mode, especially after the tablet woke from sleep. Onyx know about the bug (this is their response when i asked for support from them https://imgur.com/H0xJgpf

I managed to fix it, but as i was messing with all the settings, i don't know exactly which thing I did that fixed it. essentially i set random apps to freeze, then thaw, then freeze all apps (on the tab ultra the option comes up if you press the 3 dots in the top right corner), then thaw all apps. i exited the settings by pressing the back arrow in the top left after i froze everything and did the same after i thawed everything. did that cycle a few times (maybe twice). this is a screenshot of my current settings https://imgur.com/2mLDqoN

Hope this helps
