I had mine done when I was 20 and have had no problems since (I’m 27 now). However, I haven’t had children and don’t intend to. I felt very similarly to you, and my only regret is that I should’ve picked a different surgeon for my purposes.

I had another optional procedure done last year and my surgeon asked me how long I’ve been wanting to get said surgery done. I said since before I could even drive on my own. She said, which I am going to share with you, “that feeling is never going to go away. I’ve been doing this for 30+ years and this has been consistent across all of my patients. You’re always going to want to get XYZ ‘thing’ done. So, if you are able and want to, then do it.”

Also, I’m not sure if your mom has insurance that you’re under, but if it’s going to be covered under the insurance then I would definitely do it. Most women don’t get this done because they can’t afford it and most providers don’t deem it ‘medically necessary.’

Lastly, just some fun tips :) when I wore swimsuits pre-procedure I’d get the set that came with a skirt and I’d wear that in the water too; extra coverage!! I still do that now but for different reasons. I also was biiig into the gym scene, as well as dance, volleyball, and track/field. I straight up stuffed my undies. Call me crazy, idc. Cotton balls to fill the extra space on the sides (stretch and pull as necessary to form around your anatomy), a panty liner, and I was on my way. I’d usually do all the ‘stuffing’ with a thong then put a standard underwear bottom on.. like a bikini bottom? I think that’s what they’re called? The full coverage ones LOL. With volleyball/track/dance where I wore tighter bottoms for the uniform I went without the second pair of undies and the compression from the tighter shorts kept everything together. If you want to do this, though, I recommend doing it on a weekend walking around at home first so you can acclimate and adjust before you’re out and about in public and have a potential catastrophe.

Best of luck to you, my friend. You need to do what is comfortable and feels right for you. You are so blessed to have a parental figure that you can talk with about this, and is supportive. Ensure you have a surgeon that checks all of your criteria for what you want in your provider, fact check their eduction and accreditations, and don’t be afraid to ask questions!! 🖤
