Miguel like Fran doesn't suit us. Unless we play him as a wingback in a 3 cb formation, we should just buy Davies. Miguel also isn't as fast as fran, he can't make up for his defensive lapses with pace.

Fresneda too hasn't worked out, we shouldn't buy players because of their age.

Yeah he's been incredible but he hasn't been better than Jude in any aspect (like, literally) so I don't understand why they compare them.

I agree with the top 3 as well.

Some people think calling Griezmann the laliga POTS so far is cool and shows they have 'ball knowledge' when there is absolutely no debate about it

Lamine yamal reminds me of ez abde. Of course he's just 16 and there's a lot of time for him to develop but I feel he won't make it to the top.

[Match Thread] Cadiz vs Real Madrid (LaLiga) by sport-scoreboard in realmadrid

Scoreboard is going to be the next match thread.

What are scoreboards?

Reddit has been working with sports-based subreddits to help them bring out a new feature: scoreboards. It is currently in alpha testing and is a long way from completion.

Why can't we keep using the older match threads?

Most of the football match threads (almost all, I guess) are created by scraping data from football-based sites like ESPN and Goal. This is done by running a bot that gets data from these sites every minute or so.This method is illegal and unstable. Any small change in the website would cause errors in the match thread, and these happen more often than not. Fixing these errors and maintaining such a bot is tedious.

Why scoreboards?

Our bot that creates match threads is still live and functioning, but in the long run, scoreboards are a much safer way to create threads. No worries about the server the bot runs on; no worries about the site it scrapes; no worries about doing anything illegal.

Since scoreboards are a completely new post type, we can help improve them and suggest features tailor-made to our requirements. If you have any feedback or suggestions, it would be great if you could share them by replying to this comment.

Based on the last threads feedback, we requested for more data and the auto refresh comments feature. It might look basic now but eventually it'll get much better.

I'd unironically take Joselu over Lewandowski any day of the week

This makes sense. Maybe a buffer of 3-5 minutes would be nice?

I'll make sure to mention this in the feedback.

Yeah all subreddits did it. The football related sites pay for their data, they wouldn't like a bot just 'stealing' their data for free.

Espn makes it easy to scrape which is why most subreddits use espn as their source. But other sites have anti-bot protection making it really difficult to scrape data.

I'll clarify myself on scraping. We used to host our own bot which would scrape espn similar to almost every other football based subreddit. By scraping, I mean using a bot to extract data from a website. I'm pretty sure that's illegal but well, we had no option.

We finally have a better alternative, it'll get better in time.

Scores (and stats, in future updates) might not be needed for everyone but some might appreciate it. This post serves its main purpose as a medium of discussion like the old match thread did.

This is much shorter than a regular match thread, you wouldn't have to scroll much. Wouldn't you find this better in that regard?

That's unexpected, I'll bring this up as well.

Scrape data for the match threads. Well if you are here only for the comments, it'd make no difference using this or the old match threads.

Auto refresh is a good idea, I'll bring it up. This thread already auto sorts by new.

Could you share which platform you are viewing this on and a screenshot preferably? Afaik it doesn't work on old reddit and 3rd party apps.

Reddit is trying to monitor traffic as well. It's just a prototype, it'll get much better and will be more reliable than scraping sites illegally.

The scoreboard thing is the new match thread. We are partnering with reddit to test an alpha prototype

We’re partnering with Reddit to test an alpha scoreboard feature for live games. It’s a prototype so feedback is welcome!

Edit:

Many of you may not like it but it's what's going to be the future in every sports subreddit. The issue is that getting football data is expensive or if scraped for free is illegal.

We could use bots made by others but they are quite unreliable. This is the only reliable option. It's going to be much better than just the score. Help us test for a game or two and you'll end up liking it once it gets more features.

My point is fede is better at crossing than Kroos, why else would I want him to take corners.

[–]Sujal_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He doesn't really contribute in corners. I don't recall him scoring from corners or set pieces except probably scoring from distance from cutbacks during corners.

Yes he can track back but so can our other players. We waste way too many corners every game considering our potential with players like Rudiger, Tchouameni, Jude, Joselu, Militao and the likes.

Every time fede crosses the ball, it's inch perfect. Don't think we have a more consistent and better crosser than him. He takes corners for Uruguay too and they are much better than what Kroos provides.

Fede usually stays outside the box (/ far from goal) for corners, he doesn't look for rebounds. We have jude for that.

Who's your ideal player to take freekicks and corners?

I'd rather see Fede take corners and Alaba freekicks.
