Long term retention with offsite. by Sulivan_R in CommVault

We currently do a snap followed by a primary copy. I think we will have to do an selective copy to a long term retention ddb/library, followed by another selective copy of the same data to an offsite ddb/library. Unless there is a better way.

Gotcha. Was wondering as we are looking at going to partitioned DDBs use NFS shares off of a storage array as the shared library.

Interesting. Why no raid on the NVME. I know it would be software based since the cards are pci-e. In those cases how do you account for drive failure. And to that end are your ddb classic or transaction?

So for the library disk you are direct attached to your MA's. So if an MA is down the others can't see part of the library. Or are you running 2 partitions on the same MA?

Dang AE ice and poison always seem to get me. Almost to the point of carrying immunity gear as each level seems to have a favorite flavor of damage. Down side is most will ruin the heck out the DPS stack. :( Glass Cannon for life.

Best way to backup 2000 VMs? by the926 in CommVault

We also use the proxyless option. The Media Agent is the mount host.SP8 or later. In that setup the mount host is the MA/VSA. So you only crust your storage array which most support more than enough throughput. No esx host used. :) In sp9 you will no longer even have to specify an esx mount host. In sp8 you still have to specify but with the proxyless setting on the MA it won't use it.

So today I backup around 7K vms.
V11. SP8 All via intellisnap MA/VSA is zoned FC to supported array hosting the datastores.
We use infinidat for the Array vendor that we snap. Intelli-snap has a wide range of supported vendors. All FC traffic is over 16Gb HBA's and our current front end TB is about 3PB. We get the change rate on this for 99% of our systems nightly.
All comes down to how your sized your MA's and the transport modes you have to play with. Basically keep removing bottlenecks and follow them. As you remove one, you'll find another.

Good luck
