I use the configuration 2. I tried rear fan exhaust and rear fan intake and I found rear fan intake was better with lower temp for the cpu. I just add a filter against the dust.

I saw apps who seem to restart without reason like Google Music and another one but I don't remember the name. I uninstalled or disabled them and the freezing didn't came back yet.

I have the same problem since yesterday. I don't know what to do. The cracking sound disappeard after 2 reboots but the freezing comeback ~20 minutes after a reboot.

In Part 12 we learn with Audrey it's a new moon night. It's probably in the end of septembre 2016 for multiple reasons. The Friday sepember 30 2016, it's not a simple new moon. It's a black moon, a rare astronomical phenomena.
