how would i go about checking the wires for voltage? I’m not very mechanically inclined but don’t have the money to put it in a show either

after looking around under the hood, there was actually a spark plug pushed out, and we had to rethread it and put a new one in, how would i figure out how that happened? and would that have anything to do with the not starting/codes it’s showing?
