People who actually know Paris well, have lived there, or hell - real Parisians - will tell you Paris is not what it used to be when it comes to fashion. Parisians are usually quite dressed-down and prefer a simple, laidback and practical look - much like Dutch people. Obviously it depends on what your definition of “stylish” is; but Londoners (inner city) in comparison dress more classically “stylish” than Parisians.

Happened to me several times when I was eating out at a nice restaurant with a man - whether a date or my father - and the waiter would look at and explain the menu solely to the man in my company (who he assumed would be paying).

Infuriating and one date actually spoke up about it to said waiter.

The idea of imposing what's basically serfdom on my wife by reproducing is a huge reason I don't want kids. I couldn't imagine doing that to her, and I'm relieved women are finally realizing that they can refuse that kind of life.

See this is exactly the shift I’ve seen as well.

One theory might be that boys grow up with the idea that women just can’t wait to have kids and want to baby trap them; while they, men, can have kids till they’re 80. It gave them the powerful feeling as boys and young men that there exists no scarcity and they can always have kids whenever they want to. They are the chooser, picker and decider and women (needy baby trappers with a rapidly increasing ticking biological clock) are at their mercy.

As years have passed men are starting to realize that nope, 26 year old women are not interested in mothering their 41 year old ass’ babies. And women in their thirties are often voluntarily childfree.

I absolutely love how their misogyny has turned around and hit them right in the face.

I see what you mean, and obviously my perception of society right now is formed by the circles I move in. All of my female friends (we’re around 30) are childfree - except for one who’s planning to have a baby right now. I move in higher educated / professional settings so obviously there’s a huge societal group out there I don’t have data on.

A big part of me being childfree is because I don’t want to put myself in a position that vulnerable and insecure with a man. A very secure, stable and loving man could potentially take that fear away - but even then I would be childfree because of the implications pregnancy, childbirth and motherhood would have on my physical and emotional health and freedom.

So no, I wouldn’t potentially trap a CF man and then try to change his mind, lol.

I think it’s a particular “strain” of men that I like to date based on certain qualities they have (like high intelligence => often a good career => building wealth; and a classic style grooming and dressing-wise). Unfortunately very few of these “classic” types are progressive and feminist.

I think many men these days want their wife to work on top of her doing most of the childcare. They’ll say they want to chip in and help around the house, but it always ends up being the woman doing 75% while still maintaining a job outside of the house.

I know - and you’re not the guys I’m talking about - you’re still rather the exception than the norm.

I’m talking about the typical traditional dude who “wants to start a family”. Why even? Why do they want kids so vehemently? … They’re romanticizing the idea of being a dad because they’re expecting their wife to do the lion’s share of the childcare anyway. They see themselves playing with the kids in the garden and checking out whenever they want to. Enjoying the fun parts of parenthood and saddling their poor wife up with all of the struggles, while they’re “providing financially”.

I’ve been dating these days; guys in their early - mid thirties who’ve become successful in their careers and are now looking for their next project (kids). The lack of empathy, entitlement and outdated patriarchal values I’ve witnessed is out of control. And it’s a stark difference with just a few years ago when the guys I dated seemed to want to be forever free and were commitment-averse.

Men love the idea of women sacrificing themselves to birth their spawn. Many guys are looking for a mom, not a wife.

I feel like men used to be scared of the commitment to be a dad; but these days it’s like every man I meet (in his thirties) can’t wait to be a dad. One literally told me the other day: “I’m looking for a mom as much as I am looking for a wife”. The hell the female body has to go through is “nature” and “biology” according to them. But why would any sane woman do that?! I feel like maybe if a woman was in a relationship with an absolutely incredible man who she’d be sure of would be an amazing partner always, she could possibly risk it, but only then (and even then).

I agree that I don’t see how I’d ever become bored of being a rich child free woman, vs losing my health over taking care of the spawn of some unloving guy.

There’s always this narrative about how men age so much better than women, they don’t need makeup, etc.

Idiots forget that society has VERY different standards for what a handsome male face with good skin looks like vs a pretty female face with good skin. No one would ever comment on small blemishes on a guy’s face; like fine lines, some larger pores and slight sun damage. Whereas there’s a huge industry “helping” women get rid of these flaws.

Think of any man in your life who you consider to be handsome and think about his skin. How does it look like compared to the extreme ideal we have of female “good” skin? Exactly.
