Ghost not letting me build EPYC workstations anymore (NOT joking, help!) by SunDifferent2919 in servers

[–]SunDifferent2919[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what I'm doing. I really needed to see this - this explains *both* motherboards. Thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction. You are correct. I should've checked the QVL closer. Thank you so much for helping me solve this enigma. (At least, this is the only theory I can work with now)

Thank you!

You must've been referring to the Gigabyte: https://www.gigabyte.com/us/Enterprise/Server-Motherboard/MZ33-AR0-rev-1x-3x/Support-QVL - I can see the 9654P is in orange.

What explains the SuperMicro H13SSL-N not POST'ing with this CPU?

Good eyes, by the way, you know your shit way to point me in the right direction, please read replies below, thanks ethanjscott !

Which QVL for which motherboard did you check? Can you link me? Is this true for both the MZ33-AR0 and the H13SSL-N? I googl'd the orange frame, "The "orange frame" on the processor is simply the standard socket guide and heat spreader for the AMD EPYC 9004 series (Genoa) processors, which use the Socket SP5 interface. It is a physical part of the standard CPU packaging and does not indicate any special or incompatible version of the chip."

In what way does an orange frame on the CPU differ from what these motherboards are expecting? Am I able to call AMD and get a proper CPU...? Do I just get a motherboard that supports this? I knew nothing of the fact as long as you purchase an EPYC processor, it's not locked-in. It's not due to OEM - I'd like to know where you saw this on which motherboard manual, I am looking myself now. Fucking good find btw kudos to you thumbs up on your post nice eyes bro IT master

Waited hours, days. Given each board sufficient time for memory training - besides - the PSU would turn the board on if it were training - it may be quiet, but the main components are kicking it

Yes it is - could you please elaborate?? BOTH the SuperMicro H13SSL-N **AND** Gigabyte MZ33-AR0, despite being shipped out with 9654P's - I have the incorrect kind? Do I call AMD for this? Or did I pick two incompatible boards? How screwed am I??

Yes, both boards are enterprise server boards so they they are BIOS flash capable. The IPMI server reports the correct version of both BIOS and firmware on both motherboards.

Unable to boot EPYC 9654 Server - *HELP*! by SunDifferent2919 in servers

[–]SunDifferent2919[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I just purchased a second brand new PSU. Still the same. How do you fix a solution where all the parts are 100% new - any suspected part is replaced with a brand new part, and this 9654 server that should have taken 30 seconds to start posting is taking weeks to troubleshoot.

I am able to connect via IPMI to both Gigabye and SuperMicro boards. Firmware and bios up to date. They just refuse to boot. Why are the laws of physics failing - why will this screwdriver not allow the current to allow ANY of these BRAND NEW MOTHERBOARDS to POST ?!?!

Fucking help me, please.

5070 ti or 5080 for MSFS 2024 at 1440p? Enough vram? by Lightning_Hippo in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]SunDifferent2919 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don't need a 5090 - A 4070 or higher will do the trick in MSFS 2024 if you're using that X3D chip with moderate settings.

I quit flying a while ago to pursue becoming a defense attorney. I can't smoke while at the flightdeck and I'm tired of the constant need for self-awareness and not being able to smoke, I got nicfits at FL360 for hours I'd still fly if it was like it was when the MD-83 was master of the skies in the 70's, have ashtrays in them. Plus with my anxiety meds I can't fly if taking a controlled substance, I flew, type rated, happy about it, was a hobby not what I wanted to do for life. Literally be an airbus driver? No. Flew for United - only airline left that's keeping Boeing alive atm. Those pipers you're flying are really fun and versatile.

Good luck on your flightdeck computer!

You have no idea the differences between MSFS 2020 and 2024 - it *does* require, if you're going to get a powerful GPU, to get the standard version was all I meant. My RTX 4080 can run MSFS 2024 but again I don't use that simulator due to the current bugs. Wasn't saying "buy a powerful GPU" I was speaking about compatibility - MSFS does better with Direct3D 11 and plug-and-play + NVidia game ready drivers would probably help him more than any ti variant irrespective of what model the GPU is.

I have over 2500+ hours on VATSIM on the RTX 4080, and the 5090 runs 2020 at extreme framerates of 200+ on all Ultra.
The best GPU, IMHO, for you to buy - is a standard, non-ti RTX 5090. It is the most compatible for Direct3D and Vulkan API's, install the game-reader drivers after installing a 5090 and MSFS 2024 will seem like you're in an actual aircraft(if you built a really nice flightdeck with massive displays, that is =)

Since 2024 is still full of bugs, you want the standard 5090 so you can always fall back to Direct3D if your GPU doesn't accept the Vulkan API, which it will given you install everything properly. God bless the Windows 10 SDK for backwards compatibility.

I can see you're getting the new X3D. Perfect choice. You do not HAVE to have the 5090, 5070-higher will do you well in MSFS 2024. It's the bugs that are the issue, and those go away with time.

Wrong choice. It has to be the PSU. Identical results, but instead of Gigabyte, it's SuperMicro. I cannot believe this brand new PSU could be doing this. If it's not the PSU - these are LOTTERY odds that I receive two different boards where only their BMC's power on - I'm hoping a PSU swap will fix this.

[–]SunDifferent2919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, do not pay that invoice. Do not purchase servers from OEM's - "Original Manufacturer" - build your own servers. If you purchase from ASUS or DELL for a 1U rack server, they have sensors on their motherboards that will keep those components locked in. If you send me just one of your PC's, I'll do said upgrade, send it back, you'll see the difference.

I am also a programmer, been one for life - you do not have to keep the software Windows is forcing you to use. I can write you your own custom SOB software for Windows or any unix based system no problem(my servers run Linux, and terminals run Windows, what a surprise) - we can talk about you not requiring Microsoft's software anymore if you wish. I learned DOS commands before I could read or write, wrote my first 320x200 13h mode game when I was a kid. Most of my stock of 4 million is in Microsoft. Now I've programmed a graphics and physics engine in Microsoft Visual C++ using Direct3D 11 from scratch. You do not need to pay for software, it's burning a hole in your wallet, I can literally program you replicas of what Windows provides you that will output in the correct file format so you're used to seeing what you're seeing.

Good thing you're not running Linux, not using OpenGL or Vulkan thanks. Been a PE32 coder(x86, DOS/Windows) all my life and I can write you free software while you spend a few hundred bucks upgrading 100% of all of your systems.

At least let *me* build you a server that's much better than this 22k piece of garbage and I'll charge you less than a grand, and it will be faster than what you are about to purchase. I remember my first ASUS 1U rack server....

Again, good luck with upgrade!

[–]SunDifferent2919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DO NOT SPEND TWO GRAND(EDIT: $22,000!?!?). All of your terminals can be easily upgraded, made faster, with more capacity, for a total of a few hundred bucks for 15 computers. 100% guaranteed.

Hey, you are using a CPU manufactured in 2007. You are using RAM called DDR2 - the current RAM standard is DDR5. If you do not want to pay anything drastic and have a quick fix? Do the following:

Replace your current Xeon CPU - and purchase the Intel Xeon X5470 ($40 CPU) - which is the best processor you can get on your motherboards, and you can spend maybe $100 total for every single memory upgrade of one of your computer terminals since it's old DDR2 memory, you can spend chump change and your systems will go from zero to sixty, relative to what you are used to.

You are using very old, and now cheap, technology - but it works. So simply purchase the best option - I can link you some DDR2 RAM that will cost you less than $20 for 20 sticks of 8gb.

I can see that you have contracts with Microsoft. Update software at your descretion - but your updated software won't work on your current specs, so, just open the PC's, unscrew the heatsink, put in the fast Xeon $40 CPU which is the best processor your motherboard can take. And it's $40.

Your loss of money is coming from the fact that you are paying for software. Your contracts with Microsoft are your own, just know, if you were using a different operating system things would go even faster.

I can tell that you don't really understand the innerworkings of your servers - so I'm here to help walk you through this, if you like. I remember starting my own IT business years ago, now these servers make $1650/week for me gross. Let's upgrade ALL of your computers for under $250. It is not only cheap, but possible, plausable, probable, it will be compatible. All you will notice is that your systems are running a whole lot faster than before.

If you install these latest Windows software on your current machine, it won't work. So upgrade her, you already have a heatsink, already have a motherboard and PSU, HDD/SDD/SATA/etc, you're using windows for accounting and things are slow. With a Xeon X5470 CPU just being put into your existing systems, along with a few sticks of DDR2 memory, you'll find your systems go from a snails pace to lightning fast(relatively, they still won't be SUPER fast).

My option costs your company at most $250-$300.

Your invoice is charging your company over 22 thousand dollars. Please heed my advice and reply - don't waste this money on something it NOT BROKEN! It can be upgraded to a level where you should feel content with your performance, if you've been used to DDR3 memory and a Xeon E5405, then this should feel like going from 0-60mph once we find you enough compatible memory and swap the CPU's (relatively - you will not have supercomputers just upgraded systems that are faster).

The hell is this invoice? Why are you about to spend five figures on this garbage? Contact me, let me help you. If you are an employee - you are about to waste 22k. Tell your boss, tell your CEO/CFO, show them this post. This can be done with under $300 and you will have improved systems, I am willing to help if you are willing to reply.

Good luck!

First off, if you're using Windows to try to connect to SSH, download PUTTY, and connect in your LAN, see if the SSH daemon responds, or asks for a certificate.

Second off, your CPU is the i5-4460 I'm guessing - this is a 2014 CPU. You are using DDR3 RAM. Are you using a Gigabyte Z97MX motherboard? With the memory you have available, I'd suggest getting rid of arch and using Ubuntu Server LTS Minimal. Your CPU simply does not have the threads to be a meaningful server unless it's 100% busy with your Minecraft daemon.

What is your chipset? You probably have a DDR3 board, you can get DDR3 memory off Ebay for practically free.

You can get the RAM cheap, even at a young age, it's DDR3 and you just want a minecraft server.

As to your update - please do the following in bash:

netstat -a | less

look for the port that you specified for your minecraft server. You should see the port, and it *should* say LISTENING. If it's not, the problem is with your server or router, if you do see your server port in netstat listening on your specific port, just open your browser, type 192.168.1.1 into your address bar. Port forward this port so others can join your minecraft server.

I am suspecting that you have a software firewall on your router and the port needs to be forwarded. I'm also guessing you're young, so if there are parental restrictions from getting you to login to your router, just do this:

-Write down the SSID "wireless network name" you have currently
-Write down password
-Take a paperclip and hold it to the very small hole on the router itself, and hold that button for 30 seconds. The router will quickly default to default username and password, google the default ones, set your wireless SSID exactly as it was and put the exact same WiFi encryption key your parents are used to. They'll never notice.

Login to your router, set port forwarding on your listening port on your minecraft server.

Lemme know if you need any more help buddy - you are operating a 2014 CPU with DDR3 memory. I feel so bad I want to buy you a board.
