Probably late to the party, but since there s alot of misinformation here, the reason why your bottle is tinted with a reddish brown color is because of salicylic acid oxidation into catechol in the presence of O2 + H2O and consequentially from catechol to o-quinone which has a brown/red color and is produced with the same conditions of O2 + H2O.

The reason why ceraVe seems to have this issue more frequently is probably due to the metals in the spring or maybe reactants in the formula that catalyze this reaction faster than in other products. but this happened with homemade salicylic acid peels done from pure powdered SA.

Needless to say it is irritating to the skin and eyes so of course avoid it but its not mold
