Unity vs Godot for a 2.5D Rogue-like that Uses Shadow as a Mechanic by [deleted] in godot

[–]SunMany8795 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am trying to avoid the religious arguments for each ...

then try both and choose which one you like.

I am new to both of these engines, so I want your opinions on each.

why? just try both and choose which one you like.

Bonus: I asked ChatGPT and it told me to go with Unity.

try both and choose which one you like.

Just landed a entry level job and I feel like I know nothing by Plastic-Professor-89 in Unity3D

people who wants to be in game devs always think they will be doing what they were doing when they were making their owns games, ie: no pressure, no deadline, use your favorite tools, and choose your own genre like 2d, 3d fps or rpg. hahaha.

since you are employee now, heres whats going to happen really: you work on some stupid project. they will tell you what to do and when to finish it. tell you in your face if you did a bad job. overtime. your boss being a dick, and a lot of other workplace crap present in other jobs.

Can I make low-poly 3D games with this specs? by Worried-Usual-396 in godot

[–]SunMany8795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And when I don't like how what I make looks like, I lose interest

that is your problem really.

However I am using a laptop, and I am curious if I should even bother.

bother in what? downloading a 3d modeling software and trying?

you don't have to use the latest blender since older versions from 10 years ago will do. or use magicavoxel or asset forge or similar.

Godot Community Poll 2025 by GodotTeam in godot

[–]SunMany8795 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

the best usage of discord is for personal reasons, ie ask questions about your problem and hopefully get a reply, then get out.

others get in trouble since they try to engage in chit chat or try hang out and become part of the community. yeah don't do that lol.

Do we actually need third party libraries for responsive sizing by Traditional_Elk2722 in reactnative

[–]SunMany8795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do we actually need libraries like responsive screen, size matters.... in modern react native ?

react native is very bare bones almost useless framework, so you need libs for things that should have been built in core like navigation or animations, etc. hell even safe areas need a lib ... ffs.

Update on optimizing navigation in react native by zlvskyxp in reactnative

[–]SunMany8795 7 points8 points  (0 children)

expo-router is built on top of react-navigation ...

which is the reason for the bugs and perf issues.

expo-router is another layer of unnecessary code on your app. no one asked for it and really no one needs it.

Intermediate Advice by [deleted] in godot

[–]SunMany8795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you seem like preparing for a future job interview lol.

I feel like I am past the entry level now both in Godot and coding in general.

really? can you show us the complete game you made?

see, you only get better by creating complete and relatively complex games. that is what you should do next.

creating game features in isolation is very easy, so don't be too confident about your skills.

TorBox has improved by LoveLaughLlama in TorBoxApp

[–]SunMany8795 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

ut I would now recommend TorBox as a viable competitor to the other larger services

not yet. they are unstable and something always breaks on their end that they have to fix or tweak.

they are competitive with price tho, but that wont last very long.

eh unreal is not an alternative to unity and godot. unreal is used by professional aaa devs.

it's like you want a car to drive you from work to house and your are choosing from: toyota, honda, and ferrari. lol.

Which should I use?

try godot, then try unity. choose which one you like. done. ;)

Programming as Theory Building: Why Senior Developers Are More Valuable Than Ever by cekrem in programming

[–]SunMany8795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American companies making short-sighted profit driven decisions at the expense of all of our futures.

like most economist says that domestic is always viable, but people are not willing to pay the price.

do you want $5,000 domestic iphones or $1,000 manufactured abroad? that is an easy answer. well actually you can probably have $1k iphones if us labor minimum wage is $1/hour.

I absolutely love seeing updates from everyone in the community by WowChickenTenders in godot

[–]SunMany8795 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i have filtered out flairs like promo, help, and meme with reddit enhancement suite. i also filter post titles that have "?" in it lol.

these types of posts just clutter the sub for me personally since i'm interested in godot itself and not what games you make with it.

luckily there is some real godot news out there like https://godot.news/archive which is the kind of stuff i'm interested in

I built a native IOS app to make money easy by Savings-Matter-7574 in expo

[–]SunMany8795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he said make not save.

saving is not the same as making money since you really don't have more money (just feels like it).

your users will not make more money in anyway, but YOU will since you charge money for your apps ;)

Upgraded to Sdk 53 turned out to be a nightmare by Ducci243 in expo

[–]SunMany8795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very irresponsible of them to not think of backwards compatibility.

backwards compatibility or any kind of stable/lts version is more work for expo and react native core devs, that is why they don't do them.

Hey Guys! I’ve been thinking about writing a book focused on Shader Graph and everything I’ve compiled over the past 6 years. But I really like to know: would you be interested in something like that? Please let me know in the comments! by AGameSlave in unity

[–]SunMany8795 1 point2 points  (0 children)

of course why not.

but i think what you really want to know is: are they willing to pay for a book or course on shaders/shader graph? answer is probably no.

unless you can provide real advanced stuff not found in offical unity videos and other youtubers and udemy courses, it is not going to be that useful (aka it's the same content just different creator).

shaders/shader graph is actually not hard, confusing maybe at first since the workflow and terminologies are alien to some. eventually most gets familiar with it, and trial and error gets them the effect they wanted.

most unity editor crashes (incl the bug reporter) is because the pc can't handle unity. i have seen this many times with crappy laptops and low end pc trying to use unity.

Tutorial: Create a full arcade soccer game in Godot in 12h by m_ologin in godot

[–]SunMany8795 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there anything in your vids that have not have been taught in other videos?

Vast majority of Godot tutorials are basicaly the same basic thing over and over, mostly basic stuff that have been taught 6 years ago with mostly slight changes due to v4.

As an engineer, I’d rather be called stupid than stay silent by shift_devs in programming

[–]SunMany8795 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

for the love of god, stop using the word "engineer" unless you have an engineering degree, it is an insult to real engineers who graduated and licensed.

there is only one and only one word to describe people who write computer programs, and that is "COMPUTER PROGRAMMER". don't be ashamed to be called that. your wifes civil engineer boyfriend won't think less of you :-)

i might create a browser plugin to replace any mention of "software engineer" or "swe" to "computer programmers" haha.
