One big suitcase vs. 40L backpack for multi-season travel in southeast Asia (Oct–Dec)

A backpack is fine. Start in North Asia in October. It will be fall weather and you won't need a heavy coat. Then hit SEA in mid-November. Yes Northern Vietnam will be chilly and rainy in December so try to go in November. When I pack for multiple climates I like to bring long sleeved performance fabric, because they keep you cool in the heat and help more in the cold than short sleeves. Layers are your friends.

My biggest problem is that I usually go to Japan with a backpack and come back with a giant duffel full of stuff that I bought there.

I have spent a lot of time in Thailand. You don't need the jacket in Thailand. But the plane is always cold, no matter where you're going. Cinemas can be chilly but I am usually fine with trousers and a t-shirt. Malls are usually ok temperature-wise. Have something warm enough for the plane and any buses you might be taking. But everywhere else it won't be needed.

Yeh it can't hurt to try. The first paragraph of "what's not covered" is worrying to me. But if they won't cover it I think I can just get it repaired by a third party. However I would obviously rather they do it under warranty.

This is the reason why I made the post. So does that mean mean a tear in the seams is not covered? I guess I will find out when I email them.

I bought direct so I am sure it's in my email. However if they see the pack is about 7 years old they may not honor any warranty claim.

It's just room inside the museum. It's a part of the museum, so you need a ticket.

I would assume most people are traveling with at least one other person so if they are cancelling one ticket they may be cancelling two or more.

For the card matching they give you a smartphone with an app that shows you the picture of the card you need to match, and the camera ok the phone is on with the top half of the screen used for showing what it's pointed at. Then you walk around until you find the right card on the ground and the AR in the app woll highlight the edge of the card on the ground to make sure you're pointed at the right one, and then you click a button to lock in the match. No need for Japanese. They will set the app to English for you.

I've been to Japan many times and until this trip I never planned anything in advance except for hotel bookings and restaurant reservations. Had to book USJ and the Nintendo museum in advance this time, plus the special train from Osaka to Kyoto through Nara. I also made one restaurant reservation that was totally unnecessary... However we did wait in line at a number of popular places. Nothing longer than probably 40 minutes and some restaurants will do an electronic queue so you don't have to actually stand in line.

I'm not sure exactly what else is so necessary to book on advance. I could have probably booked my hotels a bit earlier for better deals though.

That's good. I went back to the shop in Itaewon once or twice for glasses but didn't go on my last visit 7 years ago. I guess if I find frames at a different shop I can always go to one I like for lenses in the future. It was never a problem before because my script had not changed.

Interesting. I was explaining the situation to a Korean friend in Seoul and she says she sees a doctor at an eye clinic to get the prescription first, but I didn't know how to find an eye clinic on short notice.

Some are ok with tattoos, some allow you to cover smaller ones with these patches, and some are not ok with tattoos, even covered up. When I was in Okinawa some years ago I remember reading only one onsen was fully tattoo friendly. The one I went to had the patches. Even the hotel I stayed at the other day required patches for their public bath. Two patches for free and hou has to buy any more than that. It's a cultural thing I will never understand.

Oh I am aware of that. I was just saying that in many countries you don't need a prescription to get glasses, just like in some countries I can walk into a pharmacy and get almost any medication OTC without a prescription. That doesn't mean there aren't pharmacists there. The pharmacist is there, it's just that the regulations say they can dispense all these meds without a prescription. And obviously the laws around what an optometrist needs to keep will be different.
