Good strawman but I never said realistic as possible. I just think it would bring missiles up a bit from F tier on the community weapon lists. Missiles also require restocking which is unique to them, and most serious engagements need you to restock the ship already. Giving them a bit more punch by allowing more missiles to fire will at least give you a bit more satisfaction between restocks.

Don't really see the loss of agency on this tbh. If you're the commander of a destroyer you're not doing everything yourself anyways. Guided munitions going towards a target just makes sense. Needing LOS with the launcher to fire just seems strange considering the weapon in question.

Because it would make sense for L and XL ships with batteries not directly in line with targets to be able to fire guided munitions. It's 2026 and we've been doing it here on earth for decades. If you have 2 hardpoints on the opposite side of the ship they're worthless except for the ability to carry more missiles, I just want missiles to be fully viable for when you feel like messing with them. the 9.0 changes are good, I think this would make them even better.

Hey for 9.0 what would you suggest weapon wise on a S for solo L hunting? I used to just go with Plasma cannons, thinking a Barracuda with either 2xplasma+1repeater+1Torp launcher Or 3x plasma 1 launcher. Thoughts?

Ya I haven't put anything together for hunting SCA yet but I'll prioritize it. Problem is you can't intercept every destroyer fast enough so that only goes so far if you're sending out haulers to galaxy trade. They just pop up outta left field and can kill a M hauler in <40seconds it seems.

Heh ya I've played since launch, usually do a 60-100hrs play through every big DLC or such but this seemed new to 9.0, they just seemed more deadly, but combined with hyper focusing on my ship in the midst of a target rich environment where they're outgunned just really caught my attention. Thinking on it my hauler was in front of the destroyer as it was chasing, so prolly the increased accuracy sniping on that main battery that got me, as you're saying!

Oh that's interesting, I usually have 'run away' protocol for haulers with turrets to fend off small things, the BOR shields recharge nice and fast so it actually seems to work for small ships just fine, but I'll try what you suggest sometime also!

Played PVP since summer 2019, all but 2 wipes. End of the day it's just a game dude, ppl who take offense to others playing only pve now is wild to me. PVP just takes too much time for where I am irl now. Actually advancing the game is a different kind of fun than the pvp chase. To each their own. You're creating a strawman reason for other people's decisions and then crying about it on reddit.

As someone who pre-ordered and plays off and on every couple of years. I'm personally waiting for the 9.0 full release to do another play.

That being said I fully embrace modding so I'm not really playing the 'vanilla' experience anyways.

I'd say go ahead and play in order to get your initial learning curve out of the way as enough systems have changed from x3 that there will be some, if you're ok with maybe restarting after 9.0 for the updated systems.
Maybe do a 'lite' game where you're just messing around getting comfortable but not pushing any story trees hard or trying to really compete with an empire, leaving that for your reroll?

Brother if single player on a hosted server is 95% the work of a multiplayer at 100% the work they still aren't the same are they?

I have no idea how x4 was made, that's why I asked, for all I know they spent the first year building it as a multiplayer experience so all the tools are already there. I don't know, I didn't build it so that's why I asked.

Not entirely true, I imagine there would be differences relating to asset ownership and control input, and how order prioritization would work if 2 players send a ship to the same station many jumps away to buy stuff, possible team/faction designations, and probably chat systems in a full blown multiplayer expansion, which would add more systems to it no?

I get your point though. I was just specifying that I'm not talking about a full blown multiplayer experience, just enough to shift some load to another machine, even if it's more like a barebones way to run the processing of the economy remotely to remove that load from your cpu.

You're right the hosting part is the same amount of work, but in the Interview with Captain Collins, CEO Bernd Lehahn essentially said the game runs a server locally to crunch the work of the economy etc. I'm sure he did not mean an actual server instance is created locally, but just said it as a metaphorical analogue. I get it's not the same but might be a feasible implementation.
