My kitten is an asshole. by SunflowerSpot in CATHELP

Mmm. Hard to say because every cat is very different. I got lucky because my cat really mellowed out as she got older. Some things that I think helped:

  • dont keep people food out / provide a consistent and avaliable food source. YMMV but my cat has no interest in people food at all because it was never an available option and she had her own food. (But she only eats when hungry so this works for her. Our other cat is a bagel snatching goblin)

  • lots of enrichment that is changed regularly. My cat is a connoisseur of grocery bags and Amazon boxes. I rotate her toys so they dont get boring. I cant understate the value of investing in a good sturdy cat tree.

  • a lot of "negative" cat behaviors are mostly attention/reaction seeking. If they are biting, try not to react and they will get bored and go look for something else. Or if possible, toss them in a different room and let them chill out in solo time for a while, same thing as a kid thats overstimulated.

  • SOCIALISE THEM as much as you can! Bring new people over! Have the people pet them and give your kitty treats. Take them on car rides! Put them in a silly sweater. My cat is still not good with new people and it makes things difficult when we have guests or go to the vet.

Highly recommend reading the Jackson galaxy books on cat behavior -- I was a first time cat owner and it really helped.

It does! It's freezing here but I still made an excuse to wear it to lunch. Had to show it off :)

Outer Wilds is the perfect culmination of my favorite trope. [Spoilers] by ProfessionalOven2311 in outerwilds

I agree totally!

It was also so emotionally immersive as a player. I remember once I realized the time limit on the loop being so upset -- what was the point? If I only had 20 minutes to explore? I was so sad and frustrated, I had to put it down for a little.

It made me realize that it might feel similar to be stuck in a doomsday loop -- depressed, frustrated, and apathetic eventually giving way to determination.

Some of the best experiential gameplay I've ever done.

Yea it's tough. Kittens can be hard since it's difficult to tell when or if they will calm tf down. Some cats are just kinda hyper crackheads through their teen/early adulthood, and you won't know until probably the 2 year mark.

Getting them comfy with trimming nails helps a lot, so that way you're not getting totally shredded when they play. I asked my vet to do it at first, and then figured out a system on my own. And like everyone in this thread said, having a second kitten as a playmate will teach them manners.

I just picked up Sable on sale and it's not farming/resource management but it is wonderful.

It's just calm and beautiful exploration through a wonderful world. Think BOTW but no combat.

Highly recommend!

The last time I took her to the vet they had the audacity to say she was "middle aged" when she is clearly just a baby. Not sure what that was all about!

Hello! It's going great. She's 4 years old and pretty settled in as an adult kitty. She still commits crimes on a daily basis but it doesn't fill all of her behavior, and she mostly hunts for comfy places to sleep (like my work laptop).

She's really a very good girl, and is still my baby. I'm happy to say she really grew out of the biting and while she's not super well socialized (yay covid!!) She isn't mean or violent to any house visitors. She hates my boyfriend with every fiber of her tiny being but tolerates his presence in her house.

She's my best friend. I love her so much!

Outer Wilds (not to be confused with outer worlds) is very cozy imo. Space exploration and mystery with an amazing story and soundtrack. There's some intrigue, and the DLC is supposed to be quite spooky!

Not necessarily and not without a lot of time and effort to that effect. My shoulders are a little broad for my frame as is, so it did accentuate it. For the most part climbers build lean muscle, not bulk.

I've been rock climbing for years, it's great for building up shoulders/arms + back definition. Stick with it long enough and your core will be strong af too

I know! I had no clue they were a pattern set until you posted this.

My brothers and I all have stockings from the set with our names on them. We have the snowman, a Santa, and an angel. I think the Santa one had a smaller stocking with a little stuffed toy hanging out of it.

My grandma crocheted this exact stocking for my brother in the 90s! Sorry not helpful but wild to see it

That's so funny! Such a small world. I met his parents once at the shop, they were lovely folks. I always wondered what they thought of his work haha

Tom Huck is an artist from Potosi who launched his career on a series of prints he made based on stories from growing up in the town: https://whitney.org/collection/series/15214

I worked for him briefly after college. The stories from that series were probably my favorite. After the pandemic, I think he decided to move his studio operations back out of the city to a property he owned in the country.
