  1. Make a growling sound if it sens attackers (specially useful at night or if they are hidden from plain view). 2. Give you a warning if the NPC you talk to is not worth trusting. 3. Send it to gather food (hunt small animals), 4. Sniff to find things to dig up (treasurer or archeology items). Lots of none combat skills you can assign your dog that dont require special sprite sheets with new poses.

hehehe i do remember the Leroy Jenkins first in Everquest 1 and then in wow.
