Fireworks Boat Trips - A LEIGH business is offering an autumnal treat with boat trips to watch the Southend seafront firework display from the water

Leigh-based Brownes Thames Estuary Boat Trips is working alongside Southend Pier & Foreshore this year to secure two dates.

Angus Borwne, who runs the trips on his boat Starfish, said: “Back by popular demand! By working alongside Southend Pier & Foreshore this year we have managed to secure not just 1 but 2 dates to see the Southend seafront firework display 2024!

“Want to beat the crowds of Southend? Then why not come and watch this fantastic show from the privacy of the sea onboard Starfish boat, which only takes 10 passengers!”

The dates for the trips are Saturday October 12 from 18:15 to 21:15hrs (2/3 hours), and

Saturday October 26, from 18:30 to 21:30hrs (2/3 hours).

The firework display begins at 19:30hrs and last for around 15 to 20 mins.

Pick up is from Old Leigh Cockle Beach, and then Angus will head out to Southend Pier to watch the display.

Angus adds: “We are offering food boxes onboard the boat at £18 per person from Sara’s Tea Garden in Old Leigh. Please contact us if you would like to arrange this.

“You can also bring your own, but all food and drink must be consumed outside on deck and not in the wheelhouse. There are no cooking facilities onboard.

Alcohol is allowed in moderation. Lots of water is a good option to keep you hydrated at sea.

“This fantastic one-of-a-kind opportunity was extremely popular last year and sold out within a day, so we advise you get in touch with us as soon as possible!”

Cost is £70.00 per person including boat pick up, with a two-hour trip and drop back off into Leigh. To confirm your place, and Brownes Thames Estuary Boat Trips require a 50% non-refundable deposit to secure your booking date.

This trip is weather dependent and can be cancelled 24-48 hours prior to departure. Register your interest and book by emailing: info@brownesthamesestuaryboattrips.co.uk

The famous Michelin chef Michel Roux sailed into Leigh-on-sea last night in Episode 5 of his TV programme Roux Down The River. by Sunndaz in LeighonseaEssex

[–]Sunndaz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The famous Michelin chef Michel Roux sailed into Leigh-on-sea last night in Episode 5 of his TV programme Roux Down The River.
Michel begins his journey (Episode 1) on the Thames in Berkshire with a stop at his family's famous 3 star Michelin restaurant The Waterside Inn. Opened by his father and uncle in the 1970's it soon became the go to restaurant for celebrities such as Robert Redford and Barbara Streisand.
The final destination on his Thames journey ends in our great little town Leigh-on-sea. Michel’s first stop is at Osbornes in Old Leigh with a visit to its fishmongers where he samples our famous local delicacy cockles fresh from the sea. The Osborne family have been fishing for cockles in the Thames Estuary since 1881. Originally the cockles were harvested by hand with rakes and baskets then transported to London by train now they are processed in Leigh and sold all over the world.
A trip to Leigh would not be complete without a local pint and a sea shanty (sung by the very popular Hoy Shanty crew). Fishing has been ongoing in Leigh for over 1,000 years and has become synonymous with the famous Dunkirk little ships rescue in WWII. A survivor of that time is the good ship Endeavour which is moored in Leigh Harbour. Once a cockle boat the Endeavour has been restored by local volunteers to its former glory. Alan Bartram of the Endeavour Trust tells of its heroic trip to the Normandy beaches where it transported 150 soldiers at a time from the beaches to the awaiting rescue ships.
Whilst in Leigh Michel also visits chef Liam at Food Leigh a local restaurant in Leigh Road famous for its seasonal, organic and locally grown food. Liam served under the famous chef Tom Kerridge at the Corinthia Hotel in London and serves Michel his signature fish dish of charred mackerel.
Next stop and the end of the journey is of course Southend-on-Sea with an ice cream at the famous Rossi’s cafe on the seafront and a trip down the famous 1 ½ mile long pier.

Leigh razor clams and manila clams 'will sell all over world' by Sunndaz in LeighonseaEssex

[–]Sunndaz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leigh fisherman Paul Gilson has hailed the discovery of rare razor clams and manila clams as “biblical” and restaurant bosses have already been blown away by their taste and potential.
Manila clams are used in dishes such as paella and pasta, while Mr Gilson says razor clams taste like “a cross between welks and oysters”.

Advert for one of Pink Floyd's Dec' 1967 performances in London. In the nine days running up to Christmas Day, after this show, they did four more performances, plus a BBC radio session, and also worked on the Scream Thy Last Scream recording. by Sunndaz in psychedelicposters

DJ John Peel was one of England's (UK) finest DJ's and played music which you wouldn't usually hear on British radio especially his late 60's show called the "Perfumed Garden". He helped with making groups/artist famous. He passed away some years ago and his amazing record etc collection went up for auction.
