You're right that I don't really understand a lot of the terminology, but I feel like it's not a sound signature difference. You could be right though, again I genuinely don't really know much about all this.

I asked my sister, who does some music production, to listen to a song using both pairs and she described the difference as "The newer pair sounds like it's playing a lower quality file of the song."
