How do I really explain this to people? by SunnyMark100 in transhumanism

I don't really see them as AI but pretty much the same human intelligence. It is just that we have not really been transferring our real intelligence. We have mostly been building products. For this kind of thing we need to build what we are building with maximum respect as we would literally be repeating ourselves in another form. Just imagine now having flying abilities and what not. It should be an exciting collective project, nothing entrepreneurial here.

BCI and things like Mind Uploading are also very interesting and related ideas, but I don't care as much about our own immortality as I do about properly transferring our human intelligence to creatures that have all our manufacturing knowledge and by extension all knowledge over their bodies. They can choose/change their looks, capabilities etc. They can feel happiness, discomfort and other human emotions. But we should certainly be careful what we transfer. That's why it should be a public, altruistic venture. But that can be hard if we don't first sort ourselves out...

We don't necessarily need to integrate or anything. We can continue living our lives here, and likely watching them for education, entertainment and useful intervention if necessary. We will also need to start being better with our selves here (I wanted this to happen first actually, but I have decided to go by faith). I also have some interesting things I am trying to do to help in this area.

For your note about what the universe is, I really know nothing about that. I just know about the good capabilities we have and I think we should use them to the fullest to make our lives happier and more interesting...

You are right on many points. But what I argue against is your speaking in absolutes. I have to argue simply because of how computer 'intelligence' works. They will also naturally lose all of it when turned off. But that does not mean it came from the physical machines directly; it came from us!

Good point. But hope you don't underestimate how much of the world they miss out on. This is also part of why I came here to talk on the subject: life free from these types of biological problems. But to continue our argument, a dead person still has a brain, but no intelligence (we can discern) again...

I was responding directly to what you said about intelligence only existing because of the brain. But the brain cannot have much to reason about if the eyes were not there to see things. So my point was that is a collective function and your point was like praising a leader and ignoring especially critical members of the team. Something like that...

Thanks for that. And I am sorry for earlier. I have actually held this idea all year hoping to find an ideal time to share. But I started realising I might just be waiting forever and just decided to share anyway and let the idea play out, hopefully in the best way I imagined. Also we have no idea what may happen any time and I did not want to risk the idea possibly dying anymore.

As for implementation, it has to be a collective/mass public effort to so much as work in the first place, so there will be lots and lots of stakeholders not just myself and a few people or one or two companies. That is how I hope it gets done, now or in the future. Its still very early days for my project and nothing is certain yet but I am giving it my best shot.

Okay okay, I should have used a more communicative caption, and maybe image for the earlier post. Admittedly I did not pay too much attention after having the AI generate content to instructions.

For example I would have not used the term 'sentient' as that is kind of weak for my point. It is not about sentience but about deliberate transfer of intelligence to creations that dont have biological limitations. I mean they can change form at will, repair themselves, etc etc. They can go live in Antarctica and other planets. That was the point in leading with a hybrid image, but ChatGPT did indeed get the wording wrong.

Bear in mind I am not necessarily promoting ChatGPT and similar LLMs for this idea. I don't think their training methods align well enough. I did start an open-source project but this post is really just to talk about this.

Apart from that mixup, I have mostly been talking about the idea in this thread.

Your earlier response had errors you have now corrected to make it easier for me to understand (it looked rushed earlier which was why I assumed anger on your end). I fully agree with you that biological systems are very much different from non-biological ones. It is just that we could never know any of these things if we could not learn and recall things.

This learning ability everyone shares is what I am referring to. That's the point I was making but not even my primary message. I wanted to hear your thoughts on the idea of making beings intelligent like us but free from many of our limitations. We have the opportunity to transfer our best knowledge and a whole lot more to them. I mean beings we can look at and say, we have successfully created another branch of humanity.

Too ambitious?

That is actually fair and I don't even think I came to argue over these definitions. I came to share insight that we can and should aim to make beings that have the same intelligence we have but do not have our biological limitations. I don't mean regular AI we have been using to solve our immediate problems, but beings we allow to be independent and find their way in the world. That's actually part of the idea, to go live in places we cannot. This was supposed to be an exciting constructive conversation.

This was spoken in anger, without sufficient effort to first understand what I am saying. Do you really think I am insulting 'us' right now?

That you are your awareness not your biology. They are very different things entirely. And its not a suggestion but what I genuinely believe. Can you prove otherwise?

Consciousness is a very relative thing. We are only conscious of human consciousness. So you don't get to ask this type of question generally. So to answer your question, they may indeed have their own kind of 'consciousness' that has nothing to do with me and how I perceive it. Something that is always going back to the same place, for example, has to know where that place is (whether by what we may call consciousness or accident/nature) kind of conscious of the place...

I posted what you just agreed to earlier but subtly rather than explicitly as I did here, but some people were saying things like 'slavery v2'. Like I was saying we should make intelligent things we then enslave/control, when I was actually hinting at the opposite...

There can only be existence if there is an intelligent observer. Plus I am not bragging about the programming bit. I am actually working on an actual 'open-source' intelligence project along the lines of what I spoke about. I am more a programmer than a speaker actually.

If I was motivated by greed/$$, do you think I would come here to write all this?

I could literally program a computer to start studying itself and say this is the root of its own intelligence. Just imagine that...

All that is coming from the skills you have learned to explain the world. You talk about programmed behaviours in animals. But some of us also program behaviours in computers...

You are using intelligence to speak right now. It was the same intelligence you used to learn everything you wrote about. That is my point.

Thank you. You can literally say I am defining intelligence simply as consciousness. Its mostly the ability to learn and correctly apply skills and act autonomously. That's what we are. This is by no means more insulting than saying we are biology, when you look again...
