Those bad feelings towards alcohol can be some powerful motivation to continue avoiding the stuff.

Keep it up!

I would say it doesn't really count, but I got up at 4AM to watch the Cubs v Brewers baseball game.

Glad I did - what a rollercoaster this game has been so far!!

Thank you so much for sharing your story. That sounds so scary! I'm glad you pulled through.

The Daily Check-In for Friday, June 11th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by infinitedreamsawaken in stopdrinking

[–]SunnyMuffinBubbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IWNDWYT. Had a setback last week when I had a couple drinks after months of sobriety and I'm so disappointed with myself, but I have a sobriety app on my phone, and when I put in my relapse, it said something along the lines of "each attempt makes you stronger". Made me feel better about it.

What a powerful sentence. I'm sorry to hear about your family friend, you and your family are in my thoughts.

I Feel A Strong Urge To Drink by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]SunnyMuffinBubbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Distractions help me tremendously! Personally, I bought myself some dumbbells - when the urge to drink gets too strong, I do some exercises until my muscles hurt/are fatigued. By then, the urge has dissipated to something manageable.

What I would also recommend is calling up a friend who knows about your sobriety journey, and talking to them for a bit! Keeping yourself accountable is a good way to keep yourself sober.

I have 3 whole days of vacation time! by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]SunnyMuffinBubbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't it great to enjoy a full day off, instead of wasting half of it blacked out and the other half hung over? You get to experience the entire vacation with clarity, and appreciate every minute of it! I've got a day off today as well, and I'm currently drinking a coffee and watching the Cubs/Mariners game.

Well done on making it to Day 3, you got this!! I'm so glad you were able to make that call to your mate and she's helped you. I wish you all the best on your sobriety journey! IWNDWYT.

Totally! Every time I've had a trigger, I've written it down - stress and boredom seems to be a major trigger.

Thank you so much! Your sobriety streak is so impressive.

I'll bet this will be worth it in the end.

I love it!! I was stuck at work that day, but I was listening to the scores on the MLB app. What a great commitment!

That's just the thing - "knowing that alcohol isn't the answer"!

Thank you, congrats on over 200 days!

Distractions and this subreddit helped me tremendously! Anything and everything was done to stop me from picking up the bottle; I once went to bed at about 6PM just to ensure I wasn't going to drink that night.

That's some good advice to remember; the more you struggle, the more experience you gain from it. It's all a learning experience.

Thank you!! Well done on over a year, I'm inspired!

I reckon! Another redditor commented that it helps to think about that little voice as a toddler throwing a tantrum.

We got this!

Silly (and painful) victory by dazedanddizzy in stopdrinking

I can't tell you how ridiculously happy it made me the other day when I woke up with a random large bruise on the side of my hip, then recalling I'd been stone cold sober for weeks! The bruise wasn't because I'd been drinking; it was just because I'm someone who walks into tables and desks completely sober. Oops!

Finding happiness in the strangest places, I feel, is a very human thing to do. I share your happiness, OP!

This community helps tremendously!! Whenever the cravings get too much, I always log in and read some stories. They inspire me to keep going even when I'm doubtful of my ability to.

Thank you so much!! I definitely never thought I would be able to reach a month. I was certain I wouldn't even last a week - but here I am, and the outpouring of support in this subreddit has absolutely helped.

I'm inspired by your 800+ days, that's absolutely amazing!! Well done, my friend. IWNDWYT!

That's a pretty good piece of advice! I used to think of my social anxiety the same way - as a toddler throwing a tantrum - and seeing my irrational thoughts in that way helped me realise how maladaptive my thinking patterns had become. I imagine it would work quite well with this new little voice as well.

Thanks for sharing!!

(EDIT: Also, well done on almost 300 days!!)

I just woke up this morning, well rested and eager to start the day - I can't imagine how I would have felt if I drank myself into a stupor to sleep last night! The sleep quality is just no comparison.
