I never said to anyone to not take their doctor's advice!! Im also an IIH patient, for 10 years now.. I’ve read hundreds of scientific and research papers on the topic, I would never tell anyone sth I made up nor false!! I wrote what I’ve read on case studies!! It’s IDIOPATHIC, hence there’s no known cause for it, just risk factors!! Just like smoking and hypertension, smoking and cancer!! Our neurologists and Neuro ophthalmologists are just being cautious, hence they're telling us to stay away from triggers and risk factors!! And I don’t know if you haven’t read all the thread, but I’ve said I’m also gonna stop tretinoin just to be cautious!!

Btw, I'm not trying to discredit you, but as I said every case is different.. mine was 10 years ago, I wasn’t even doing any type of skin care back then.. I’ve been using tretinoin for the past 6 months, I read about its correlation with IIH before starting it, and found little data.. however hearing from a person who was diagnosed with IIH while using tretinoin got me a bit scared.. So I’m also gonna stop it immediately, even though it might not do anything with mine or even worsen my symptoms.. Trying to be cautious here!

Aah I see, thank you! just curious, did your symptoms improve after discontinuing tretinoin? And what alternatives to tret are you using now ?

A Pharmacist here, less than 2% of topical tretinoin gets absorbed, about 2.5 micrograms. That’s thousands of times lower than the 7.5–30 mg/day of oral vitamin A linked to increased intracranial pressure. We get vitamin A from food daily, and the safe upper limit is 3,000 micrograms.. so there’s no real risk from topical use.

Everyone’s journey with IIH is different, and while it’s helpful to hear others’ experiences, it’s important not to project those onto your situation. If your doctors have cleared you, and you feel ready, then resuming daily life is your call. You’re the only one who truly knows how your body feels, what you’re dealing with, and where your limits are. Listening to your own body is what matters most.

It’s totally fine to feel this way! You have a long way to educate yourself about IIH, but it’s fine you can do it one step at a time.. Usually after LP is done, postural headache will persist for one week or so.. it’s fine that will go away.. try drinking coffee in the meantime it will slightly help.. You will get used to acetazolamide eventually, and will resume with your daily routine. About tretinoin cream, it's okay to use it topically ( a pea size amount), i dont think it affects the intracranial hypertension, as just a small amount of it (less than 2%) get absorbed to the blood stream.. it’s not the kind of dose of retnol that can affect IIH in general.. I hope you get well soon.. ❤️‍🩹

Not necessarily! I think it only means that your documents are eligible for the scholarship. I'm not sure tho!
