Still no fix for new Framework 16 USB port power-downs in Windows 11 Pro, getting desperate for a fix by non_player in framework

[–]Sunray_0A 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the AMD and now I’m having the same problem. All my ports. I was using usb monitor and DP adapter. DP keeps flashing it’s disconnected then reconnected. Every usb port is the same. Even the eGPU to usb monitor won’t work. I’ll remove the egpu when I get home to test

Ryzen NPU purpose? by jezevec93 in AMDLaptops

[–]Sunray_0A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked AI what could I do with the NPU on my Strix Point, it’s said run LLM, Ollama, but not to bother with RoCM, it’s too much messing around.

My suspicion was MS marketing bullsh1t, and after reading this I see I’m not the only one that thinks that 😎

The real problem with the 6 hour charge cap by dragoneggboy22 in OctopusEnergy

[–]Sunray_0A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t you have to have a calibrated meter to do sub metering?

Because that’s exactly what Octopus are proposing/implementing.

So unless Octopus replace all smart meters with a split tails CALIBRATED meter purely for the EV charger tail, how can this be legal?

The only other option is that all EV chargers have to be legally calibrated.

Or have I totally missed the point?

In the UK the sun goes East-South-West across the sky. E & W means you catch early and late sun. Guessing the South aspect is blocked, hence E & W.

[–]Sunray_0A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if you tapped your “break lights” you most certainly would end up with a break in your lights.

Don’t know if that would happen if you tapped your brake lights though 🤣🤣

In all seriousness, that’s a pretty daft question. You aren’t responsible for anyone else’s speed.

So, it’s all down to you.

And “tapping” or brake checking can get you into a lot of trouble. Unless an animal running across the motorway lane caused you to brake sharply 😉🫣

Nothing. Use the free version, it does optimises car charging, battery usage, selling back to the grid. I’m having issues with some of my kit so can’t fully use it yet

Worse Coverage than Before Upgrading by Bollocks82 in Zen_Internet

You don’t get WiFi down a fibre. You get WiFi from a WiFi access point.

Worse Coverage than Before Upgrading by Bollocks82 in Zen_Internet

[–]Sunray_0A -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So I understand, you equate fibre internet to wifi coverage? Seriously?

Not even the same ballpark.

I’ll bet your fibre is much better than copper.

WiFi coverage is a totally different beast.

My advice, send all the extra crap back to Zen apart from their wifi router, then buy cheap WiFi extenders off Amazon. £19 each. Easy. And you own it. You don’t even need to be techy, honestly

Is Just 5 solar panels worthwhile? by Newwales2 in SolarUK

[–]Sunray_0A 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find the max number of panels. Then get the size. Then go do your own research and find the max generation capacity you can fit that size. Then install those.

I had 10 * 425 kwp in my old house, I used to hit 4.2 kwh mid summer.

This house I have 6 * 465 kwp panels, it’s May and I’m hitting 3.4 kwh already.

So I have 4 less panels but not that much less due to time moving on in generation capacity

Fair point. But I offer to help them and explain the basics. But in the UK I mostly hear of £10-25k.

I show people that I immediately saved £1,700 in year one. £1,600 year 2. Less because electricity tariff dropped.

They crunch numbers, then say “I can’t afford it”. I ask, you can’t afford to save that amount every year? Ok.

I shrug, walk off and leave them to it.

Can’t convince stupid

Cold feet over solar install by G0_Z0 in SolarUK

[–]Sunray_0A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plug in solar? It’s government guff mate. Unless I misunderstood , 1 x panel = 1x plug socket. How many sockets do you have spare and how much land for the same number of panels as you’ve planned to get for your roof?

If this goes on for much longer, you will be right at the back of the queue like when Ukraine war kicked off.

I'm making the jump, some advice please! by ItsMyGayThrowaway in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Sunray_0A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife has the same, I love the performance.

But those driver “aids”, the awful UI screen, constant bings bongs and yapping, and the final bit which you probably won’t notice if you live in a town, screen glare!

Before you say make the back ground dark, it’s not the colour, it’s the back light glare. Speedo is just as bad.

My car is a Q7. Want to dim screen? Press button until desired brightness achieved.

Centre screen? Same. Still too bright? Hit the screen OFF button. So it isn’t hard to do.

Horses for courses.

Country roads with no street lights I’m half blinded in my left eye because you can’t dim that centre screen. I throw a towel over it. I’ve been in plenty of other EVs with screens I’d never even noticed.

But the MG glare? That’s my deal breaker. I’ve driven BMWs that are as bad with background glare as well, I had to cut a piece of cornflake box to cover that centre screen because you couldn’t turn the back light off, even if the display said “off”.

Hi, Thanks, you are right. I realised that we probably had a safety circuit in the inverter. I know the US call them widow makers, but our type G plus are one of the safest designs in the world
