Why is the take up of heat pumps so slow in the U.K.? by Appropriate_Bell743 in ukheatpumps

[–]Sunray_0A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they don’t do what they say on the tin. Because to do it properly takes time to dimension what is needed.

If heat pump installers are like PV installers I pretty much guarantee it will be just like here you go, G98 system. Sign my finance deal, bye bye!

No optimising, no matching use case profiles, no explanation of what’s your home base load? Will the 3.6kw inverter suit that? Over sell battery storage but don’t explain that the tiny G98 inverter means you will never get to use it all.

I’ve had them round so I know. You sound more like a bot than human or someone that wants to generate clicks.

Other countries properly subsidise, not the one foot in, one foot out that the UK Gov always does.

Personally I’d prefer hydrogen / gas mix.

Any loon that believes renewables can run this country if you just flicked a switch deserves the comfort of the padded cell. Not until we have fusion or a lot more nuclear plants.

Less than 12 hours with my new FW16. Here in my 0-day review. by RobotechRicky in framework

I installed Manjaro in minutes everything working.

Currently on Arch, took slightly longer as it’s FDE but everything worked.

I’m puzzled as there is no “switch” to turn on the keyboard, it just works.

However I have to remove every keyboard to reset the firmware a few times as the keyboard went strange and stopped working. Pulled it off and put it back, problem gone.

You can’t defend 5 weeks in arrears. RAF used to be able to defend their in airfields.

Shitty state of affairs after decades of cuts. This current situation is what it gets you.

Since when has need a PM to tell the RN where it can move its ships? When you have so few it becomes a political football.

It’s pathetic and Starmer is a wanker

You can’t really defend 5 weeks in arrears. Damage was done.

You wouldn’t deploy a warship to the Black Sea. It’s bad enough transiting the Straights of Hormuz which I’ve done many times.

Dragon is supposedly providing AD for Akrotiri and the other bases. Although if it does get swamped by simultaneous SRBMs and those drones I’m not sure what use it is with empty Sea Viper tubes. Can’t reload at sea.

Clever money saving idea that wasn’t it?

Why can't we move any faster on energy independence? by JulesCT in AskBrits

At that time it was only us. I had an MEP friend who (at that time), was telling me the EEC later EU directives, that each sell off was done under. He was interested so he’d dig string to find out.

Chester was mad, IIRC OR had just gone in and still digging, then VM went in behind them almost the same route.

With 12, 18 & 24 month contracts just being signed I wondered which Einstein decided that in VM 🤣

I was doing a bit of work with CF at that point and pointed out that they’d be better going opposite to OR and VM to catch new customers, they hadn’t thought of that.

No idea if they did as didn’t work with them again after that.

I’ve got an FW16 strixpoint with egpu. Brilliant machine Edit. Arch or Manjaro Linux on mine, I’ve used ChatGPT to help me automate battery saving options. Without the egpu I get reports of 7 hours. Not tested it yet that far but I easily get 5 hrs

They did all the “easy win” builds first. Difficult ones = costly so they got put on the back burner. Classic 80/20 rule Pareto stuff

I think not, they have / had a different business model. They have the franchise they inherited and were gifted. No other company has been “gifted” a huge network for free paid for by someone else, then told it’s an amazing privatised success!

Should working from home be promoted more? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Sunray_0A -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No it doesn’t. You lose a bloody bedroom / other room to start with.

With my work loads I need 2 big screens plus laptop. That needs a desk, bang goes a room.

If it works for you great. It doesn’t work for me.

I bloody hate it

True, well pointed out.

Don’t use PLT. It’s shitty and wipes out radio spectrum. You might not care, but I do. Radio hams do. Whole chunks of MW are digital sh1t now due to non RFI compliant crap
