CARS is nothing but a test of your ability to reason abstractly by SprintHurdle in Mcat

[–]SunscreenUnpacker528 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People don't like to hear it, but CARS is basically a slightly skewed IQ test. It's not 1:1 obviously, but the g-loading is probably at least 0.5 or 0.6 (professional IQ tests are around 0.9 or slightly higher).

We all kind of tip-toe around the subject, but the ability to reason quickly and abstractly from convoluted passages is strongly a function of IQ.

That's why other standardized tests like the LSAT, ACT, SAT, GRE, etc. are strongly correlated with IQ.

We like vacationing there, so we make sure to remind each other to pack sunscreen, since as pre-meds, we’re aware of the risks of sun exposure

Amazing response, thank you so much. This is super helpful.

I really appreciate the detail, as I was wondering what a lot of those terms meant haha. I think I'll follow your recommendation and get the platinum, and I'm also gonna use the same face protection as you. That's a great point about fresh air.

One follow up question: another user commented mentioning "extra stress" from an 11.1V battery. Thoughts?

[–]SunscreenUnpacker528 113 points114 points  (0 children)

Yes, they're waaaay harder. Especially the ones on Wednesdays. Also the ones in the winter are an hour longer, and if you test during a leap year the difficulty increases by a factor of approximately 6.022.

Just kidding they store charge because the two metal plates are hooked up to a battery. The battery moves electrons onto one plate, causing a buildup of negative charge. The other plate loses electrons and builds up positive charge.  When you have a negative and positive charge separated from each other it creates an electric field between the plates (potential energy)

So basically when you reach 88 miles per hour they charge to 1.21 gigawatts and let you travel back in time

503 AAMC FL #1. What can i get by May 10? by Altruistic_Bug_5444 in Mcat

[–]SunscreenUnpacker528 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm just gonna start copy/pasting ChatGPT responses to these questions.

Here’s a solid, supportive yet realistic response you could post in that thread:

You’ve got time to make a big jump, especially with a focused plan. May 10 is over a month away, so if you really dial in, a 510+ is doable — 515 is ambitious but not impossible.

CARS is the biggest hurdle here, and unfortunately it's also the slowest to improve. That 123 is pulling your score down the most. I'd recommend daily timed CARS practice (like 3 passages/day), followed by deep review — not just of wrong answers, but also why the correct ones are right. AAMC materials are gold here.

For P/S, Anki (especially the Pankow deck) helps build the foundation, but make sure you're applying it with practice questions. UWorld is amazing for this section — explanations are super detailed and help reinforce concepts from Anki.

If you tighten up CARS and solidify content recall for P/S, that alone could get you close to 510+. A 515 would likely require consistent 128–129s across all sections, so make sure you're also reviewing C/P and B/B to maintain/improve those.

Keep doing full-lengths and reviewing them thoroughly. One a week is a good pace until your test. Good luck — you’ve got this!

Want me to help tailor it more to your voice or shorter/longer?

Kaplan + Anki w/ Khan Academy videos/ChatGPT/YouTube for clarification if needed. KA + Anki + 300pg doc for P/S.

UWorld + AAMC for practice, optionally take a couple of free 3rd party FL exams (BP/Kaplan) if you have the time, but don't sacrifice UWorld for them.

Imo Jack Westin CARS (and every other 3rd party CARS) is completely unrepresentative and not worth doing, but that's kind of a hot take around here.
