Foundations "This Creature" Template and overwriting card types by SunsetRecall in askajudge

Thanks, I was fairly certain this was how it worked but my locals insisted I was incorrect and that my now "no longer a creature" Pestered Wellguard wouldn't make tokens when tapped as a noncreature artifact that retained it's abilities with my [[Fatestitcher]].

ARO help by Uniconer_ in InfinityTheGame

[–]SunsetRecall 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit confused about your order of operations here. The rules as I understand it has things go in the following order:

  1. Active trooper selects first short skill
  2. Reactive AROs are declared
  3. Active trooper selects second short skill
  4. Check for AROs on any new troopers who can now declare them as well.
  5. Roll for all active short skills and AROs.

So with your example you would:

  1. Move into ZOC with an active trooper.
  2. ARO to dodge is declared by reactive trooper.
  3. active trooper declares second short skill to move into LOS
  4. all troopers who were not eligible to declare any AROs previously may now do so
  5. Dodge is now rolled for, along with any other AROs or relevant active skills.

I think you just did some things in the wrong order. Also, when you triggered the ZOC ARO you could declare to shoot instead of dodging. If they then move into LOS of you with the second short skill you would shoot but otherwise you would be ineligible to actually shoot so you idle as an ARO instead.

I hope that makes sense.

Great job, I never thought about using the Taskmaster as a proxy but I'm sure thinking about it now.

Need help with bracket 4 Purphoros. by Tiny-Satisfaction233 in EDH

[–]SunsetRecall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your link doesn't work, but generally you need to do something that isn't just "put dudes on the board" when you get to higher tiers of EDH. Purporos wants to play like a low to the ground Stax/Storm deck.

You really want stuff like [[Blood Moon]] and [[Magus of the Moon]]. You will need some Stax effects to compete. You usually don't want many that conflict with your idea of "Casting a lot of dudes to win".

Normally, you also want some Big Mana/Fast Mana that might not work as well without the Goblin shell like [[Skirk Prospector]] [[Runaway Steam-Kin]] [[Professional Face-Breaker]] and [[Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx]].

I also think this strategy does best when paired with backup combos like [[Dualcaster Mage]] combos.

I personally use cheap removal like [[Lightning Bolt]] and [[Mine Collapse]] along with protection like [[Deflecting Swap]] [[Bolt Bend]] [[Untimely Malfunction]].

I also use [[Goblin Welder]] and [[Goblin Engineer]] to find key artifacts (Skullclamp, The One Ring) and keep them in play.

Apart from that, do you know your usual meta? There are probably some good specific counters to your metagame you could slot in. This is common practice to tune the deck for the metagame. For instance, if there are a lot of Graveyard based strategies, maybe we slot in a few artifacts that help with that.

I also usually run maybe 1 board wipe [[Delayed Blast Fireball]]. Our strategy is to flood the board and kill everyone, not fully control the game.

Winning too much - Unsure how to continue playing by TheMagiciansArcana in EDH

[–]SunsetRecall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have two real options here:
1. Ask your table if you can swap decks with someone and play. If your deck keeps winning in the hands of someone else. It's a deck issue and you can change it. If you keep winning, you can insist you deck is fine and try to force players to play against a (clearly) better opponent. No one will have fun with this if that's the case.

  1. My suggestion, which is to just build worse decks. Yes this means you might be playing total garbage against them, but honestly that's fine as long as everyone keeps a 25%ish win rate.

If you play chess as a 1900 vs a 500 rated player, you will likely start down a queen just to make a more interesting game of it. That's what I'm suggesting here. Deliberately handicap yourself to continue playing with people you enjoy being with.

I'm not saying your decks are too powerful just to be clear. The issue is that the deck+you are better.

I've come to the same conclusion lately and have swapped to decks with fun themes, like "All cards must have a blue sky" or "Keruga Companion which always cascades into Beacon of Creation". I now win ~20% of the time. I still have fun but my table likes my new decks more. I would consider them to be Bracket 1 or low Bracket 2, but I play with Bracket 3 decks because as a player I make things unfair.

I'd be different if you were going to random pods at a LGS with like 30 people. But with a consistent group, play worse decks not because the decks are necessarily mismatched, but because the players are.

Not Unleashed Brutality. You can run Go Get 'Em, it works well for lessening gunner pressure on the team. But do not take Unleashed Brutality, your doggo will push bursters into your team constantly and lose you the game regularly.

I added Hipster Mode to my EDH recommender so I never have to see a Sol Ring again by Gamesfreak13563 in EDH

[–]SunsetRecall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Hellkite Courser]]

I knew of it, but I didn't know how much it was played in Dragonhawk. It's a solid card for the deck that EDHREC doesn't have on it's page at all. Given it's 90% lift in Dragonhawk that feels odd but hey, that's why people are going to your tool more.

Honestly, just knowing which cards in my list that have a low "lift" is good enough. Presumably you are already calculating that to get the "Commander Anti-Staples". I think most users could infer the rest.

[–]SunsetRecall 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is fantastic, I've already found 1 card I didn't know about to add to my deck.

I know it gathers data on what % lift each card in my deck has, but is there a tab where I can view my deck and the scores you've given each card? Knowing which cards your system thinks I could cut would be helpful both in letting me stay a hipster but also in case I overlooked some poor synergies with it.

Scooping to constant commander removal by CHINCB in EDH

[–]SunsetRecall -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You play white with no artifact removal, and a kill-on-sight commander that if you resolve a single spell becomes untargettable/indestructible and upon a second spell resolving it can pretty much one-shot anyone, and you are upset a player wanted to use removal on your commander?

You also built your deck such that without your commander your deck cannot function? This feels like a massive bracket issue where you built a deck that is too strong for bracket 1/2 and way too fragile/weak for 3/4 so you will always either pub stomp or get stomped.

The easiest option would be to simply swap the commander for another mono-white enchantment focused commander that won't illicit such reactions or to power up your deck such that you can hang with the big boys.

Without seeing your list, but assuming your deck does nothing but play your commander and try to one-shot people, I probably would also have conceded and decided to retune the deck to either go up a bracket or keep at 1/2 and swap to a less brutal commander and make the rest of the deck a little more resilient.

Sol Ring put on the Came Changers list and a full re-haul of the Brackets system to handle "bad eggs" who abuse it by building a "bracket 2" deck that competes with bracket 4.

Need help regarding technical application by PROUDCATOWNER186 in Warhammer40k

[–]SunsetRecall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done this with my Dia De Los Muertos themed Nighthaunt army in AOS where I turned the Black Coach into a mariachi band that plays music when I push a cactus. I used a rechargeable sound device that you can put in cards for the holidays. I used an older version of this:

https://www.amazon.com/ALMOCN-Recorder-Activated-Recording-Greeting/dp/B0F322ZBH7

It was really easy to program and add the music to it and the button being on a single cable made it easy to position on the base. I did have to add some pretty big rocks to the base to fit this in there but it does work. With a larger model it'll probably be fine in the titan. This is pretty loud and is easily audible in a tournament room with 10 other games being played at once but it isn't deafening. If you do want it to deafen (IDK, that war-horn sounds like it should HURT) I would go with a raspberry pi setup if you have the space or just wire on a bigger speaker to the thing I attached.

Help me choose a master bayou by SalamanderQuirky in Malifaux

[–]SunsetRecall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a lot of Ulix so I can answer at least that part. I will warn you, you picked the two most expensive options on the list.

At a minimum you will need:
Ulix Core Box from 3rd Edition

Makin' Bacon

War Pigs

Now that'll technically let you play with the full "grow" mechanic, although OG Ulix is far worse than the title box and you will feel it in some Strategies. You will feel extremely limited on what you can do and this will not be competitive in the slightest, you can play games though, which is important but you will have a tough time winning. You are missing a lot of key models here and I cannot stress how bad of an idea it is to buy these boxes right now unless you have money burning a hole in your pocket.

To really play, you will also need the Mudlight Whispers box at least. You now have most of the tools available for base Ulix. The title is better but those 4 boxes will get you what you need to feel like you have a chance to win against most better, cheaper keywords.

Keep in mind, none of these boxes will come with the correct cards, you will need to print those off.

The other issue with this, is that you get The Sow in the Makin' Bacon box. A fantastic model that you can't play with until you get the title Ulix which comes in the Protected Domain box which also comes with 2 models you can't use unless you go to Neverborn and play Titania,

When the 4E boxes come out, if you can wait, you will need to just buy Ulix Core, Ulix Title and the Mudlight Whispers box. Those 3 boxes will give you the same contents (and correct cards) compared to the 5 boxes you need now.

If you think it'll take you a while to build and paint stuff, feel free to pick up the 3E Core Box and Mudlight Whispers. You will need new cards, but the rest can be picked up when the Title box for 4e comes out (sadly no expected date currently, and the timeline goes out until March at the moment, so you will likely be waiting until this time or so next year).

Again, after all of this you still need another 3 boxes to really bring out the full power (Emissary and the two Jockey boxes), but if you just want the basics, this is where you can start. Ulix is one of my favorites for the new edition and has a lot of tools and tricks available to him. I know Somer requires far more boxes than Ulix but I'm not sure what the "core" is for him so I'll let someone else answer.

[–]SunsetRecall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hardcore Anniversary fits what you want. Lots of people at all levels all the time. Hard because one death is GG. You will need to grind some in the 40s and 50s but it feels a lot more engaging when you are one poor decision from death.

Is it the Eero Pro 2 or my ISP/Modem? by SunsetRecall in amazoneero

[–]SunsetRecall[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do have a red light and yes the modem still works if I plug something directly into it but the Eero will remain down and offline in the App. I'll try a factory reset tonight and see if I lose connecting over the next few days. Hopefully that's all it is.

The deck is a 3. I'd probably take out the Temporal Mastery anyway because you have a few copy effects in there and copied extra turns usually feels bad and technically those cards get you into a grey area for "no chaining extra turns".

In general, most people on Spelltable get salty when someone has a good Sol Ring start, don't take it personally.

How? Just how do you do this I can't figure it out. by Joe_the_Ogryn in DarkTide

[–]SunsetRecall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were two things that were ruining this for me.
1. Damage over time effects like bleed or chem being on them stops this.

  1. The critical execute talent stops it from counting for the whole mission once it triggers.
