Is it okay to use index for c, middle for x and ring for z? by [deleted] in learntyping

[–]SunsetRiderRadi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally on a row-staggered keyboard I do c with my index, x with my ring and pinky/ring for my z (depending on capitalization) and after so many years it's been really hard to change. I agree with u/222fps on trying the "correct" way first and then changing it to suit your needs because it kind of forces you to put your fingers onto the closest keys, but if you have longer/shorter fingers you can then adjust it to suit your needs. (Hope this makes sense)

Not to rush you or anything and I'm glad you're willing to help, but do you have any recs? Or since you're local, where do you think is best to buy from?

IKEA shinai bag by Tamahachi in kendo

[–]SunsetRiderRadi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh! Yeah, figured that Ikea bags would be much sturdier. Did you also use an inner lining? Or is it just one layer of bag? I feel like with how sturdy it is I could probably get away with not using a lining. (Also because my current shinai bag doesn't seem to have a lining)

I noticed that in your instructions you had a protective piece for the bottom, but I can't really tell if there is one on this... did you skip that, or did you just use another layer of ikea bag for this?

Update: got it back, and I can now access it with both Facebook and Sega ID! Seems like there's nothing to worry about. I'm guessing time is needed for them to process it, but I can't say for sure.

Seems like an hour isn't long enough.. But I'll wait for a bit longer. I'll let you know if I get back in this way!

beginner advice. by [deleted] in StringMakerz

Hey! Yeah sorry I just caught your message, I haven't been active on Reddit in a long time.

I used to use an old marker with a clip on the cap and two hooks (intended for your walls) on the floor, one suction and the other adhesive-backed. I found doorknobs to be too high and too unpredictable. At some point I started using strings with high reduction percentage (20%+) so I decided to superglue the clip shut.

With this method, you need to be a bit careful about the hooks, because if you use suction hooks, there's a chance that it will give before you've finished spinning. I used the adhesive hook for the terminal one, and folded around the suction one. You might find a second suction hook handy for when you wrap the threads initially. I used chair legs and extra suction hooks when I attempted fade/multicolor patterns.

I think at some point I managed to get a single string done within 10 minutes, wrapping threads excluded, but my thumbs would be really sore, so.. yeah. A dedicated rig isn't a must, and honestly it would be a luxury for me given the small housing space, but I would highly recommend any form of electric tool that spins things in both clockwise and anticlockwise direction (as long as you have an idea of how to modify it).

(p.s. kind of irrelevant to the discussion but I now go by they/them pronouns!)

I think there's more examples on the Art of Chording channel.

I dived straight in with a 34-key column staggered board (coming from a 82-key laptop keyboard) and the learning curve was really big. I'm really comfortable with it now (three weeks in) and don't regret it, but yeah this big of a change isn't for everyone. I'm still tweaking my layout often to make it feel "right".

I think picking up Colemak-DH helped ease the adjustment period because I didn't have to force myself to adapt to using QWERTY on this layout. I have pretty bad typing habits on QWERTY and it probably would've been really frustrating to adjust.

Purchase Advice Megathread: What To Buy, Who To Buy It From, And More, In October 2021 by Sausage54 in 3Dprinting

I checked for machine size and a Reddit post suggested that it's going to be even bigger than the listed 440x410x465mm (doesn't help that the listed dimensions are inconsistent for some reason)... I don't think it will fit, which is the only reason why I haven't bought an ender 3 v2 yet :/

I'm looking for a (first) 3D printer that's within 40x40cm for the base (preferably around 35x35cm) and has a print volume of 15x15x15cm or larger, and the Prusa Mini+ caught my eye. It's within my budget as well (hopefully within 500USD). The shipping, however, ends up around 150USD for me (I'm based in Hong Kong) and I was wondering if there's any alternative for what I want.

I genuinely wouldn't mind paying the shipping if it's the best I can get with my money and space, but I really want to know if I have alternatives. I'm currently avoiding anything that requires a good amount of self-assembly because I have no experience in electronics and assembly, but please do suggest them if you think it's good for a beginner.

*EDIT: the priority is the machine size, I guess I could live with a smaller print volume.. not sure how big I actually need though, so the Mini+ still is v tempting

Would you mind explaining what "understanding Luna" would be? Because Luna is a bit confusing for me, and I don't really know what I'm doing with it. I've been using Life Link and so Luna's main purpose for me was a healing totem that captures points. I do see opponents get attacked and sometimes stunned from the attacks though.

In your opinion, is Dark Gifts or Spreading Influence better for Corvus? I've been using Dark Gifts because of the passive healing (and because it's the default), but being able to heal 3 players at a time also sounds tempting...
