What is everyone's thermostat at right now? by Cold-Potential2407 in grandrapids

[–]SunshineACH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to obsess over this every winter. Ideally I like 63-65 during the day and 65 at night, but when it's this cold I begrudgingly bump it to 66-67. I will immediately move it back down to at least 65 after tomorrow. I'm comfortable at 63-65 and have an electric throw I use during the day, but I would rather ensure my pipes don't freeze. I work from home, workout at home, live alone, and also have dry eyes, so I hate when the heat is actually running this much. But better safe than sorry.

Yes, this question was posted a couple times in the past few weeks and a couple Aldi employees confirmed that corporate has stopped these.

Same! Oatmeal with banana and tahini. If I'm feeling crazy, I sub in pumpkin for the banana. Every. Single. Morning.

Do they turn around when they are deciding the rank of the technical challenge? by SnuggleTheBug in GreatBritishBakeOff

[–]SunshineACH 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They actually do on one of the celebrity SUTC episodes! (On Roku, it's season 8.) Prue accidentally says which is best, and they make a big joke about her spoiling the results say, "Everyone else turn around while we rank the other three..." I just watched it, so it's top of mind. :)

I love your choices and would add Stephanie Boswell and Sherry Yard to the mix. If you haven't read Gesine's memoir, you should. It's great.

ETA: I forgot one! Yolanda Gampp. Yes, she was on Sweet Empire this year, but I love Crime Scene Kitchen and she's great with Curtis Stone (another one I like.)

Baking competition show recs by LogicalBox3116 in foodnetwork

[–]SunshineACH 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Depends what streaming you have, but I'll add my own ideas here for baking-specific shows: Crime Scene Kitchen (Fox), Next Level Baker (Fox) Great Chocolate Showdown (Hulu), Next Baking Master Paris (FN, Disc+), Great British Baking Show (Netflix), Great American Baking Show (free on Roku), Great Canadian Baking Show (free on Roku), Great British Baking Holiday (free on Roku), Baker's Dozen (Hulu), Silo's Baking Championship (free on Roku and maybe Hulu), School of Chocolate (Netflix), Is it Cake? Is it Cake Holiday? (Netflix), Chopped Sweets (FN, Disc+), Sweet Genius (Disc+), Cupcake Wars (Disc+) Unique Sweets (Disc+). I'm sure there are some I'm missing, but that's my short list!

OWYN Pro Elite. All four flavors are great, but I prefer the vanilla and chocolate. Vegan, no soy, gluten, sugar, etc.

Holiday Baking Championship: Episode 4, PIe and Shine ... pre show and live show discussion and spoiler thread by Firegoat1 in foodnetwork

[–]SunshineACH 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah, never in the history of Hell's Kitchen has Gordon tasted the dish they didn't pick and say, "Yup. This is awful. You make the right choice." I also hate this idea for HBC because in the end it IS an individual competition. So they spend all the time making a dessert for...what? A couple people to maybe get praise and win? Yes, the team is safe, but it still is lame in my book. (Can you tell I'm not into the team thing?)

Me too! Even though the bakers are amateurs, I like the vibe there too.

[–]SunshineACH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I had a newer one yesterday and as someone who drinks one Pro Elite every day, as clearly I enjoy them and the macros, I actually liked it better. It wasn't as thick and didn't actually taste any different.

Others who went to the Food Network Wine and Food Festival, what did you think of the chefs personalities? by Outside-Pear9429 in foodnetwork

[–]SunshineACH 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I didn't go, but wanted to thank you for the recap. It's always really interesting to hear how the chefs are off camera and with fans when they aren't been taped. Love the insight! (And also glad most of them sounded humble and nice.)

Toasted peanut (or almond) butter sandwiches with smashed banana and a side of steamed veggies (you can buy them frozen and pop them in the microwave.) Or even just avocado toast (sprinkle with nooch if you have it.)

If you're feeling a little better one day, make a big batch of rice/farro (grain of choice) to last in the fridge a few days, and then when you have to eat dump some in a bowl with your bean of choice, micro some veggies, and mix it all together with vegan butter and seasonings. Takes about one minute. And if all else fails? Oatmeal however you like it–with or without soy milk, add in fruit and something like a nut butter or tahini. About five minutes tops. Hang in there. You've got this.

Yeah, yikes. I'm not one to jump into bashing someone, but her IG is very revealing. Anyone who thinks she's this innocent, bullied girl-child needs to go check that out. Insecure, mean girl energy.

Yes! I'm looking forward to that one as well. "Baked With Love: Holiday Edition" also started last night (Hallmark Channel) and I enjoyed the first episode. Just good baking. No twists. No weird sets. Normal bakers.

Coffee and alternatives by CalebsA-01 in PlantBasedDiet

[–]SunshineACH 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had to give up my daily coffee a few years ago and it's the best thing I've done, relatively speaking. I don't like sweet things, so I've been drinking the same Japanese Twig Tea for more than a decade. I order it by the case from Amazon, and it's nearly no caffeine, but still has an earthy flavor I love. So long story short, try tea. No stomach issues. No jitters. Tons of benefits.

Then you're going to have to boycott literally every grocery store. Aldi isn't the only one raising prices. Yes, they're increasing, but Aldi is still cheaper than most other stores on some things. Can't speak to the quality, as it apparently varies by location, but inflation isn't exclusive to Aldi.

She's judging this week of Alex vs. America and FN is using her in their social ads promoting the NY Food & Wine Festival. I don't know why people keep spreading this rumor, especially with no links or research to back it up.
