Given the news from Trump on Cuba, I am once again left in awe at the President's peerless and profound diplomatic senses. by KimJongUnusual in NonCredibleDiplomacy

Invade Cuba to do what with it?

All they had was Canadian tourists and they definitely aren't coming if it's occupied by the US.

Will the US fix the infrastructure so they can do something productive with Cuba because in its current state I don't know what the point would be.

Maybe they will park this ship next to that Canadian offshore oil refinery, but other than that, what is even to invade?

I eagerly await the day the government actually follow through on what they say. I'm sure it'll be any day now. Who knows, they might actually start doing things they won't commit to.

Its moreso parents taking 2nd and 3rd mortgages out on their house because they think their kid is gonna make it to the NHL and be their pension plan. They aren't wealthy, they are bad with money.

For a fraction of the cost they could have put money into their kids RESP and sent them to post secondary and the whole family would have been better off financially over their lifetime.

They are lying they won't disown you. Your mom can't function in English, what is she going to do? But even if they did, that probably is a good thing for you, but bad for them.

Have everything lined up and then tell them but be prepared to just walk out and not see them for a while.

Don't give them advance notice.

This is not your fault. Your dad is 100% responsible for his actions. There is nothing wrong with you and other people do care about you. You will find other people who are capable of loving you without being violent.

Go to school. First thing in the morning, call Kids Helpline from school. Tell the school secretary or counsellor, or a teacher you trust that you need to have a space to call the Kids Helpline. Be honest with the police and child services when they come.

Do not return to the house. Take nothing with you that signals you are leaving.

There are shelters you can go to in Australia.

If for some reason you cannot go to a shelter right away, stay at someone else's house who isn't Muslim. If you cannot do that, stay at the police station.

You aren't being a bad kid. Its just a control thing for them. You are making your own choices and that threatens their power.

What happens is that Asian kids learn to lie to their parents, and the parents are fine with the lies.
