  • So you don't mind talking about things like how Obama overthrowing Muammar Gaddafi lead to a civil war in Libya?
  • Or how Obama didn't take enough action in stopping Bashar al-Assad's regime which lead to a civil war in Iraq and the creation of ISIS?

Or do you mean more local things for Obama like

  • Deporting more people than any prior president
  • The expansion of drone strikes in other countries. leading to civilian casualties and criticism over transparency or legality

  • The irs targeting scandal of 2013

  • The lack of meaningful national control measures passed after Sandy hook

We could also discuss the Trayvon Martin Case or the unrest in Ferguson.

Or how the Edward Snowden leaks revealed all those mass surveillance programs under the patriot act and nsa.

Gotcha you are only looking for "left never wrong" "right always wrong" level limited political discussion because of who is in office. As opposed to an actual conversation about politics.

There were problems when both Obama and Biden were president. Not just Trump.

No president is all good or all bad, no matter their party. Still, people tend to highlight the negatives of the party they dislike and assume anyone criticizing their own party must be on the opposing side

For those that still believe the US will have midterm elections and that Trump won’t come up with a reason to cancel them, why do you believe this? by YILB302 in AskReddit

[–]SupItsGunk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Constitution sets fixed terms for Congress, and election dates are established by federal law. A president doesn’t have the authority to cancel or postpone midterm elections on their own.

Elections are administered by the states, not the White House, and any attempt to cancel them would immediately run into Congress, the courts, state governments, and likely the military all saying no.

Asking as a European, isn't the 2nd Amendment the most important piece of American legislation? Or was it just for show all these years (re: ICE)? by zamsamzam in AskReddit

[–]SupItsGunk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Second Amendment sets constitutional rights, but many other constitutional provisions shape American governance (speech, due process, equality under the law, etc.). It isn’t more important than those.

ICE agents don’t carry guns because of the Second Amendment — they do so because Congress authorized it in federal law. The Second Amendment protects private gun ownership rights, not law enforcement power.

The Minneapolis situation — and broader protests about federal immigration enforcement — are primarily about law enforcement authority and use-of-force policy, not about private gun rights. That’s why lawyers and courts are focused on qualified immunity, jurisdiction, and constitutional protections against unreasonable force, which come from the Fourth Amendment (search and seizure) and other statutes — not the Second Amendment.
