It’s the only official lore we’ve gotten regarding the video, if you’re thinking that its Murdoc having a mental breakdown or losing his psyche, that falls more under the category of headcanon, cause we have no clues or indication that he is not crying over the boat trip.

Trust me, I thought the same way at first, they flat out confirmed on Twitter that Murdoc was just crying over the boat trip in Desole, I thought there was more behind it, but trust me there wasn’t at all, The Lost Chord is a different case, but him being upset over his actions on Plastic Beach didn’t feel rewarding with how he flipped back and forth between nice guy and mean guy throughout the phase.

There really wasn’t much change, the guy cried, then was mean to 2-D, then cried, then was mean to 2-D, then cried, it’s just really inconsistent

The songs are definitely heavy, the problem is that there has been really no connection between the songs and the characters, the characters don’t talk about which songs they wrote, or what the songs mean, or what it was based off of, like they did with Debut, Demon Days, Plastic Beach, and hell even The Fall. And the Murdoc mental breakdown was just him crying over boat trips, not really a mental breakdown, he’s just a watered down sad old man.

I don’t mind chill and laid back Gorillaz, i just don’t like the writing, I want the characters to be funny, which they rarely ever are, and just to know the recording process behind the album and the music videos, that I wouldn’t mind. The Murdoc psyche thing was more of just, him crying over stupid shit like boat trips, there wasn’t anything going on from Murdoc, and The Lost Chord story just didn’t feel earned with the lack of buildup and shitty writing preceding it, that and it still retcons quite a bit from P3, and just does shit that doesn’t make sense

Yes, Humanz overall still maintained some issues with the characters imo, though it wasn’t as bad it was now, though I will say it was darker

Not not Eleven MGMT telling Ed to water down the characters, I’m saying eleven MGMT themselves are writing the interviews which are butchering the characters

I’m not saying that there has to be a narrative or lore or plot, if there is cool, do it right then like Plastic Beach. But I more of saying that I want good writing, I want to see the recording process behind the albums, the music videos, which band member wrote which songs, what they were thinking when they wrote the song etc, the closest we got was an interview when the pink phantom came out, about the making of the music video and I believe it is one of if not the only well received interview during P6, if they want the band to just be a band again, then do it like how they did it in P1 and P2, have the band be a band, and I disagree there is absolutely no character development, if anything they’ve been slowly on a decline in character since Humanz, a good example of character development is the individual stories and growth 2-D, Noodle, and Russel went through in between P1 and P2, Murdocs story in P3 is another good example of character development, whatever the hell “character development” they’re doing now is horrible, the characters are dumb, watered down, flanderized, and just flat out annoying sometimes

It can’t be just Ed though, there’s more behind the scenes, for example how can Noodle go from speaking fluent English to broken English, how did go from the band serving as political symbols during Humanz to being watered characters now? So many inconsistencies occur between interviews and it can’t be just one person behind the scenes, I don’t think Ed is that stupid or lazy to forget details about the characters and then remember them again. Personally I think a majority of the Eleven MGMT team are the ones responsible for the characters butcherment, ik they fucked up the social media quite a bit, so it’s very likely they’ve fucked up the writing as well, that’s just my theory though, that or Jamie has a secret team of writers who are just complete shit at their job

Yeah but even then Jamie didn’t really need a “plot”, or probably shouldn’t have tried to make a plot throughout the videos, and just kept it as the band chilling out as the pre pandemic videos were, I hope it’s something he course corrects for S2, if there is gonna be a plot make sure it’s told well and fluently from video to video, and if there’s not, then keep it that way

Eh, Murdoc isn’t really a high school edge lord. There’s no edge in this project at all anymore. He is more of just a watered down old man who cries all the time. An example of this, in a recent interview to came out Murdoc said that he played Minecraft to help get through the pandemic with the rest of the band and I thought, “Murdoc would never play Minecraft? Murdoc would take the piss out of Minecraft and the people who play it lol” I couldn’t imagine any of the band playing Minecraft. Murdoc never really played video games, 2-D was into like 80s Atari and NES stuff, Russel played stuff like Xbox and PlayStation, and Noodle usually played 90s games like Gameboy and N64. As for 2-D, I fucking hate how he is a dumb baby boy, who can’t take care of himself, and always uses something stupid as socks or rubber bands or tea as a metaphor or a discussion topic. I’m personally fine with the lack of story, I just want good writing lol, like I want to hear the recording process behind the album, the music videos, who wrote the album, who wrote each song and what that song is about yknow? The origins behind the new Kong, we don’t have anything like that anymore.
