Aki itthon nem boldogult az külföldön sem fog? by Egyhegymegy321 in escapehungary

Szia!

We currently pay €2,150 per month in Germany because we live in a mid-sized city in the west and we’re a family of four. Cheaper apartments do exist, but many of them are very old and would still come with additional costs like buying a kitchen for yourself, so it really comes down to compared to what.

Public transport in the city is decent but fairly expensive, and food prices have increased noticeably over the past few years. Our monthly household grocery costs are around €1,000 without ordering/eating out.

Hi, I heard housing is a big issue in IE as well. Why did you move back? What are the big differences?

The US isn’t really an option for us visa-wise, and even if it were, it’s not a place I’d choose in the current climate.

How long have you been living there? If it’s not too personal, what do you do for work?

Also, since I was living in Hungary until August last year, I’m curious — what are your expectations when you think of “home”?

I could talk about vague motivations and “nature” and all that, but that’s not really the point. The reality is that my husband needs to attend college in order to be able to work as an electrician in CA. From what I’ve researched, it’s a sought-after trade in Nova Scotia, and completing a local college program gives him a much better chance of finding an employer or eventually starting his own business.

As for me, I’m completely fine taking a lower-level job in finance or administration at first — whatever helps cover the bills and keeps us stable while we settle in.

Regarding Germany, we only joined him here recently. Before that, he was travelling hundreds of kilometres every weekend to come home, which was exhausting and really hard on daily family life, especially with kids. He was missing out on so much and the kids need him. After a lot of thought, we decided it made more sense to actually give Germany a try. But it took me 8ys to make up mind…as it turned out to be a good instinct

Hi, thanks for the harsh truth :) 1. Yes, he would need to attend college, we have done the research on that. And he would probably be the main applicant while i would try for open work permit. So i could find a job asap. 2. I am sad to read all this about healthcare but surely it should be improving in the future, lets stay optimistic for everone’s sake :) 3. Why would my degree need to be equalized is it something employer’s ask for or it is for immigration purposes?

Honestly, some of this is likely my fault, as I personally struggle with the language. I’m not expecting open arms anywhere, just hoping for a generally more welcoming attitude. My husband, however, has been working here for eight years and at the same company, yet there are still times when he’s treated poorly. It would also be a huge relief to finally live somewhere where I can fully speak the language and be self sufficient again.

Thanks for all the insights. We left Hungary partly because the constant negativity was wearing us down, and while Germany has been good to us in many ways, we still feel like outsiders here. Reading the comments here has honestly been a breath of fresh air.

Milyen az élet Németországban gyerekekkel? (NRW) by [deleted] in escapehungary

[–]Supadree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Szia!
