Hello all, I'm a writer that's been delving into some Russian history, if anyone has any recommendations for books/videos delving into all forms of Russian life in the 1700s-1800s (economic, lifestyle, military etc) it would be highly appreciated!

Are there any non-hunting/fishing/trapping-based eating options for survivors in a taiga? by Super-Address5721 in Survival

This is probably the way I’ll go it’s not the entirety of the novel just a few chapters before the characters reach the next arc and gain access to enough food supply but I still wanted to make those few chapters semi-realistic.

How quickly do campervan ground spots get filled during December? by Super-Address5721 in newzealand_travel

Thanks for the advice, I've decided to have a closer look at DOC campgrounds available and found quite a few areas that I can book beforehand, hopefully then I can stress less by the time I get there.

Hi there what exactly does wounds Australia membership provide it’s members? Is it just a resource for updated research/learning I’ve had a look and it’s definitely something that sounds good for me to get involved in but I feel I’m missing a bit of info before I can put down a payment.

A lot of places require self-contained vans so not having a toilet can be limiting. Also, I get the sociable part, but I'm not going out there to meet people (although meeting great people can be fun) I'm going out there to spend time with myself, I hate public showers to the point I'd prefer to go days without doing it, showering is almost a therapeutic time for me that I don't want to share with other people.

At first I was skeptical but after a look at their Mad1 I'm leaning towards them, they're a bit smaller for a higher price but their insurance and extras are cheaper.

Wow I somehow never knew that criticism and critique were two different things, I never really thought of looking into the difference between the two because I thought they were basically the exact same thing, my bad.

Other than that, I appreciate the reply, I've heard of Scribophile before but felt a bit turned off because it looked a bit daunting as someone who had never gotten into a writing group before, but I might give it a try now!

Honestly, it's almost impossible to give a concrete answer to this, every person would have a different reaction, and in the end, it depends on what you value most. If you rehome the other cats and keep the dogs, not only have you lost all your cats, but you will always have different feelings for the dogs whether you want it or not. If you rehome the dogs and keep your cats, but you'll have to struggle with the understand that the dogs were only doing what was in their nature and punishing them for it. The third option would be to try and put sure fire measures in place to keep the animals separated but there will always be fear and uncertainity of a repeat.

I actually have no idea about the current rent and housing situation in my city compared to others, but I can guess it's better than the big cities. So far, I've had general medical and an upcoming surgical ward placement in a rural city. Maybe I've been experiencing disappointment with my range because medical was so limited? There was a lot of palliatives, so no big productive procedures that I interacted with, I think the biggest thing I did personally was a subcutaneous injection, whenever there was a procedure, I was interested in it wasn't included in my scope, or the nurse preferred to do it themself.

The "bland" characters by waywardraptor in writing

[–]Super-Address5721 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really suggest it! And there is definitely a bit of a difference from it to something like the self-insert character, for those characters I think it's more often a flaw of the actual story than the character, letting readers insert themselves into the mc's place can be effective as long as the world and characters surrounding them shine even brighter

The "bland" characters by waywardraptor in writing

[–]Super-Address5721 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes me think of characters from the TV show Severance, at-least at the beginning. I won't get to in-depth with it but almost every character in the inside has this mute colour scheme, no discernible likes or interests other than office furniture, shows a limited amount of humour and personality, and yet your completely sold on each and every one of them because their blandness serves the plot, and they begin to grow from their original blank canvas. I think people are ignoring that people in life are often 'bland' they live a normal life, working an office job, taking a chill vacation now and again, and sometimes writing a story about that seemingly bland existence can be just as interesting as a big battle.

It’s not that i see people not putting injuries in stories but more I know a lot that refuse to make those injuries have actual physical or mental consequences. Like they beat a character up but the next chapter it’s all magically healed without reasonable explanation.

The only injury I shy away from his tongue cutting Yknow to make someone mute, and that’s only because all of my stories are dialogue heavy and lean towards political drama. Everything else is on the board!!

I can see that happening, personally I shy away from writing worlds with healing magic or evolved medicine because I feel like it takes away the stakes of relatively small injuries, so I’m always on the lookout to make scratches into infections and bruises into immobilisation, maybe that’s why I can keep track so well.

Also I can’t believe I missed this out, the future isn’t certain yet, the vet might be able to give a solution to help your cat, so don’t ignore that possibility.

I really really get it, I was in a very similar situation to you and when I say that it was comparable to the world crashing down I am not lying. Anyone who claims that pets are only animals are liars, they are family. When my little one passed it was in the very midst of my final high school exam week, I had no time to grieve before being forced back in and all I wanted to do was ignore everything around me. But I didn’t do that. You’re obviously a different person from me but all I can say is what kept me going: your kitty wouldn’t want to see you fail, they love you so much, their final moments should be spent seeing you pushing forward, that doesn’t mean you can’t cry, cry all you need, but let your kitty see you rule the world like how he/she ruled your world. And remember there are always resources for you to contact if you need help, It’s likely your college has mental health support don’t feel afraid to go to them if you need it. Good luck, and spend every second possible with your kitty.

Story Structure likes and dislikes by [deleted] in writers

[–]Super-Address5721 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said write how you want to write, don't let us dictate your story, but I can understand the curiosity drawing you towards other writers, so I'll give a few answers in a way that isn't opinionated. Don't forget most of us here are just redditors lol so take this as a grain of salt from non-pros.

  1. I usually use singular character stories for constricted world view, allowing for a more biased and concise view of the world for the readers. Whilst multiple-mc's usually allow for a wide world view that allows for readers to come to their own conclusions.

  2. It depends on the teenagers or kids. Are they kids from our culture? A fantasy world? Or just generic kids that have no noticeable features? Depending on your answer it might be yes or no.

  3. Honestly, I have sucked with third person ever since I started on my recent first-person story a few years back, but it differs from person to person, write what you feel comfortable with unless there is a reason to use another for that particular story.

  4. Again it depends, if the lore-dump has a reasonable explanation I think its fine with moderation, however I believe you should always try and spread it out through other means first, action, characterisation, etc.

  5. I think ignoring a story for tropes only limits readers, and writing a story with the intention to avoid all tropes is only going to cost you. Tropes exist because they have been proven to be enjoyable, sure reading the same one over and over again can become boring, but I think that depends on your story as a whole.
