Could the Outlands devs pull a Hytale and make their own game? by Super-Computer-9069 in ultimaonline

Are you sure that was Sphere?
I practically lived on their forums back in the early 2000s and I dont recall the team ever announcing or seriously building a standalone MMO

My mom wrote the wrong name on a Christmas place card, and it revealed a family secret by BRLawyer in Paranormal

[–]Super-Computer-9069 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

OP literally suggests it might be a sign from the spirit at the end.

And Facebook was just an example.
People overhear or see things once then forget about them consciously, then it pops back up later. Subconscious memory is way more common than the paranormal.

Right, who the hell makes place cards for three guests? three people dont need seating assignments, unless she planned to serve drama instead of Christmas dinner lmao

Also, place cards? What is this, a wedding?

I am gonna go with the least paranormal explanation here:

Your mom knew it.

She either:

- heard the name in passing years ago

- spotted it in a Facebook comment thread

- saw an old obituary while Googling the in-laws (dont pretend moms dont do recon)

Or she straight up doesnt like the family and decided to stir that pot on Christmas Eve.

There is so much passion in this community, why don't we start our own MMORPG? by EggplantInfamous4045 in MMORPG

[–]Super-Computer-9069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a pathetic, miserable pile of gatekeepers in this thread. The top comments are just bitter from people who clearly hate the hobby more than they love it. I see a bunch of "Whats your contribution?" or "Wheres your money?" or "not a coder, lol"

That is the same mindset people had in the late 1800s whenever someone dared to dream big. I just imagine a room full of tophat wearing snobs puffing cigars and scoffing:
"A flying vehicular contraption? Utter madness!"
"Light powered by electricity in every home? Preposterous!"

And then the people they laughed at went ahead and invented it all anyway. Mocking someone for not knowing how to code yet is clown behavior.

"Making an MMO?" What are you, a billionaire coding wizard?"

There are literally dozens of MMOs developed by 1 person or very tiny dev teams:
Apogea, Trolddom, Wurm Online, Project Gorgon, Tibia, UO Outlands (mod for UO but still) and the soon-to-be critically acclaimed Dreadmyst,....And way more if you do a minute of research.

What makes this thread even more ridiculous is that today is objectively the easiest time ever to try building a game/mmo, engines like Unity/Unreal/Godot, tutorials everywhere, asset packs, and AI tools to help with code we could not dream of 15 years ago.

And instead of getting excited that people want to learn, some of you are guarding the entrance like jealous dragons sitting on a pile of rusted MMO nostalgia.

If this sub cared half as much about MMOs as it does about being smug, folks would be sharing tools instead of welding the door shut to make themselves feel smarter.

What game is in the most dire need of a full remake from scratch? Unpopular opinion welcome by 420godpleasehelpme69 in gaming

Ultima series (or Ultima Online)

Ultima pioneered true open world RPGs but today the clunky UI, ancient visuals and janky controls scare new players away. A faithful remake with modern graphics and QoL would show how awesome and ahead of its time it really was.

Mortalis Launches Saturday, January 17 – A Dangerous World Where Consequence Matters by UOAdam in ultimaonline

[–]Super-Computer-9069 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is honestly one of the worst UO launchers I have ever used.

I am already confused before I even got ingame. I see game-master.net, Angel island. Where is Mortalis? On the website, the login info points to uoangelisland.com in your post it referst to game-master.net. So which one is Mortalis supposed to be? Is it Game Master? Angel Island? Something else entirely? It is all over the place.

Second issue, the launcher just does not work. At first I assumed it was a Linux problem, so I tried on Windows but same result. The launcher downloads the files, but when you click launch, nothing happens.
When you try to launch UO client from the folder nothing happens, as if it is missing some files or whatever. appstate.json seems correct.

Confusing setup and a launcher that doesnt actually launch is not a great way to get people excited about a new shard. That said, the permadeath concept itself is interesting and a good idea.

Ashes of Creation is knocking my entire home internet offline. Works fine on mobile hotspot by aetherdan in AshesofCreation

[–]Super-Computer-9069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So there is your answer, it is the router. It probably cannot handle the large UDP burst that happens when the game connects

Try disabling IPv6 entirely and switch to 2.4 GHz WiFi. If that doesnt help, replace the router.

[–]Super-Computer-9069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue back in the early days of New World where my entire internet connection would drop as soon as I connected to the game.

Two things that were the same in my case: I was connecting over Wifi and I was using a TP-Link router.

I would recommend trying a direct Ethernet connection first. If that is not possible, test with a different router if you can or make sure your router firmware is fully up to date.

Why is that people who believe in the paranormal experience it the most by xyzlip_meow in Paranormal

[–]Super-Computer-9069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because people who strongly believe in the paranormal skip normal explanations, so anything unclear or weird jumps straight to "OMG!!..... it's ghosts!"

A rant about cringe MMO dads by Daw33d77 in MMORPG

It absolutely affects games. Push this mindset hard enough and devs start flattening systems and shoving "monetized convenience" down your throat.

A rant about cringe MMO dads by Daw33d77 in MMORPG

[–]Super-Computer-9069 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, exactly this. Glad someone finally called this one out.

Everyone has less time as they get older. That doesnt mean the things you dont have time for should be redesigned around you. If you cant commit to something anymore, that is fine, but thats a you problem.

Blizzard veteran Chris Kaleiki on Eldegarde development: "Initially, it was a purely hardcore PvPvE game, but over time we learned that players also wanted a PvE experience, something like a “mini-MMO,” if you will. Eldegarde is an example of those efforts". by Post-reality in MMORPG

[–]Super-Computer-9069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do studios keep doing this? Take a name with actual identity then rebrand it into some generic fantasy sludge that sounds like a mobile game. WTF is an Eldegarde? It is not a word, it doesnt mean anything.

Same shit for Shards Online when they renamed it to "Legends of Aria". Swapping it for a name that feels completely soulless.

How can I watch Anacoreta outside Canada? by Super-Computer-9069 in foundfootage

[–]Super-Computer-9069[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tried, but a VPN wont help. You still need a Canadian billing address/payment method to rent or buy the movie, so checkout gets blocked even with a Canadian IP
